DVC dining upgrade

I really wouldn't look for any major changes, except for pre-payment, at least until the system is fully online and the MS CMs see how it really works.

so could you technically do every other day deluxe plan for all members and the other days in between book the regular plan for a total of 7 days thus having a carry over each day?

This is rather brilliant!!! :thumbsup2
I would have never thought of this plan (or a variation of this). Now I'm thinking if they'd allow an EODay DDP... :yay:
That means for a 9 day stay I can buy 4 days worth of DDP. That would be absolutely perfect!

Now to wait and see if this option actually is available... popcorn::

This is the part I am confused about, the carry-over possibility. Don't you think they would have the credits only good for midnight to midnight? Therefore a carry-over would not be possible? Is it that way now, or not? We haven't done the DDP since 2008 and I just can't remember how it worked! :goodvibes

I'm having a hard time understanidng some of the details.....does this mean that if you are staying 7 nights in one place, you could effectively prepay the ulitmate dining plan for one day,and then pay for the regular dining plan for the other 6 days, and it would all be on one card, usable for your entire stay?
or,would the fancier plan be accessible for just one day,and you'd have to note which day upfront?
or is it simply you could stay 7 days, and buy ddp for nly 5,and the credits would be good for your whole trip?
I'm really curious about this, and have been wishing we could do something like this for many years....

No, the days you bought the dining plan, would be limited to the day of purchase and the day you check out.

If you bought the plan for day 1, it would be good for day 1 and day 2 until midnight.

If you did not buy the plan for day 2 and 3, you wouldn't have credits after midnight on day 2.

You are still just buying by the day and it is only good for those days. You aren't buying it for a week and only using it on a few days of the week.

That does not jive with what MS said to jandbmom>:confused3 It sounds to me this new way will be much more flexible. I am looking forward to more official explanations.

I see this as a big improvement. We prefer the variety and quality of the food offsite, but we enjoy character meals, so a limited use of DDP would be attractive to us.

Does anyone know whether this is WDW-wide? Or is it only for DVC?

Can someone share the pricing info on the rates for the different dining plans? Its per person per day but I've never seen any info any where that has the info listed?

Regular DP is 45.99 for adults and 11.99 for children 3-9

Deluxe DP is 78.99 for adults and 21.99 for children 3-9

Quick Serve DP is 34.99 for adults and 11.99 for children 3-9
DVC site says 11.99 for QS children but I thought it was only 10.99.
I'm not sure which is correct.
Doesn't make sense that the Reg. and QS would be the same.

These are 2011 prices per person per night of your stay.

Thank you so much for the info! I have been looking online for this everywhere! :-)

It says that effective Oct. 14 you must prepay your dining plan. What about those of us who have added it, but are not traveling until Dec. Do we have to call in and prepay or are we "grandfathered" in?

you are Grandfathered in.

Confused. Now everyone in the room doesn't have to be on the DP? I can just book my family?

Nope. You don't have to get the plan for all of your stay, but you do have to get it for everyone.

Thanks. Wish you could pick who was on it and who wasn't. I can just hear my sister - who is awesome about most things by the way- "We won't use the DP". So my family won't either - UGGGHHH!

Just be aware if you have a waitlist and it comes through after the upgrade you will need to call in and add the dining plan and pay for it.

I've been trying to keep up on this new info, but need some hand holding. I have a reservation for January. My first day was added later (waitlisted). It still shows as a separate reservation on my reservation list, but I did call and they told me it was linked. So can I get the Delux DDP for the first day for the 2 of us and no dining on the second part of the reservation? I'm not moving and the reservation is all in the same resort? This all sounds crazy. But normally what we do is stay at a value or mod the first night (AP rate), buy the delux ddp and eat at some of the nicer places on the first 2 days and get our mug, then move to our DVC resort the next day with no dining. If I read this correctly, I may not have to stay elsewhere and move now? Please correct me if I got this wrong.

Right now we're all just tilting at windmills for the most part. We're now only 1 week away from the system upgrade. Come back here in 7-8 days and you'll certainly read reports of what people have/have not been able to do under the new system.

You should definitely be able to buy one of the dining plans for just a couple days of a DVC reservation and forgo any dining plan for the remainder. What we don't know with 100% certainty is whether there are any risks involved in adding the dining plan to a reservation retroactively.

Thanks, I'll be watching to see how this all "plays" out. It's not a dealbreaker for me, but could be an enhancement.

Caution about "flexibility" of using the dining plan w/linked reservations:

I added one day to my T-giving reservation; the two reservations are linked.

Yesterday I called MS to add the dining plan, and they asked me if I wanted it for both parts of the linked reservation, or just one. I said I didn't know I could do that (at least now, before the system upgrades).

The CM told me I could--but that I would not be guaranteed I'd be able to stay in the same room, because adding the DP to only one segment of the linked reservation would have the effect of 'delinking' the reservation.

I don't know if this will remain the case after the system upgrade--but it's worth asking the question. I know in my case I'd have preferred the DP for the 7 day ressie and not for the added 8th day--but not at the price of possibly having to change rooms!

First time in all my linked reservation "history" (and I've had a lot of 'em!) that any CM offered me the option of adding the DP to only one portion of the linked reservation...so just don't know if this is part of the coming system upgrade, or just an unusual occurrence.

But definitely worth asking about whether you might have to change villas if you do decide to add DP to only a portion of a linked reservation!
