Planning a 7 day trip in Jan. 2022. Including grandkids, there will be 10 of us. Now that APs are available, trying to determine if upgrading my park hopper to an AP would be worth the extra cost given that we don't know if TIW will be available. AP dining discounts apply only to AP holder and 3 guests. I'm not able to find such a restriction on DVC dining discounts. Would I be able to apply my DVC discount to the entire party assuming I paid the entire check? Any other advice on going with the upgrade to AP or not? Any significant discounts available with AP that are not covered with DVC?

Thank you in advance.

Officially DVC is also the member plus 3.

You will need to wait to do math.

TIW, Dining Plan, Discounts, what places include the discount. That will all finalize end of the year for 2022.

In meantime breakdown what you plan on eating and leave room to put discount percentages later to compare options.

Wow, I did not know this about AP discounts.

I have often gotten tables for 6 or 8 and they have always applied the DVC or AP discount to the entire check (excluding drinks).

Maybe because my spouse and I are both DVC/APH, so if they were difficult about it, we could split the check and get the discount for 8?

But they have never even asked about it.

In Dec of 19, we had a party of 12. CM mentioned limit and my DD mentioned half the party had APs and the CM accepted it.

We took a look at the AP dining discounts:
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/passholder-program/passholder-benefits-and-discounts/
As well as the DVC dining discounts:
https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/discounts-perks-offers/dining/
and in our case the AP didn't offer any additional discounts over DVC. You'll want to check the restaurants that you'll specifically go to.

I never knew there was a DVC party limit...it probably is a YMMV but we haven't ever been restricted to it. Our party size doesn't typically exceed 6 though and it may be an assumption of 1DVC+3 guests *2 members =8 total

There is a website which compares the discounts at each restaurant. I used it pre-COVID. I have not been back to Disney post-COVID. I will type in the website to see if it is allowed here:

Isn't the "+3" a relatively new addition, while it has been around a few years, it wasn't always so. But then again I'm used to the TiW, though there were some changes there, too, the total used to be 10 diners, I think it dropped some over the years, too.
