DVC dining discount black out dates?

We are going to be at WDW from Dec. 28 - Jan. 5th - our first holiday trip! Our DDE card has blackout dates for Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, so I thought that's no problem as we can use our DVC discount. That doesn't seem possible either as my Portable Perks from my trip in July says that the DVC dining discount isn't available on major U.S. holidays either. That is so frustrating!

I'm just going to sign in to the Annual Pass website as I'm assuming this discount isn't valid either. I guess we have to pay full price for those 2 days, or does anyone else have any other recommendations for me?

How about using the dining plan for this trip? I agree that I hate the black out periods! Mother's Day for instance, cripes!

We would be using the DP as we love it, but we we don't qualify as you have to stay in a DVC resort and they are all booked, so we are staying at Port Orleans on points. My hubby is really missing his DP already, but we had to book this trip late due to a medical emergency, so we were lucky that any resorts were open at all!
