I have been reading over the various threads here for a few weeks, so I have a good idea what is going on with DVC, so I thought I would call up DVC and get their info on buyin non-SSR and so forth. I got a very nice lady (Vicki) who took down all of my info, but since I was a referral, I have to talk to another staffer who is in CA for training. I tried to get specific info from Vicki with no success as I am interested in VWL and not SSR.
Her only response was that unless I am going to WDW over Xmas or school vacation weeks, the home resort is basically irrelevant.
Obviously, the marketing of SSR plays into her response, but in reading DISBOARDS I have been led to believe that the home resort issue is far more important than Vicki has led me to believe.
I am not one to plan my vacations 11 months in advance, but I would if I thought that I would be unable to get a studio at VWL inside of the 7 month window. Has the "home resort" issue been blown out of proportion or have people truly been "locked out" of their ressie choices ? Issues with school vacation weeks are a given, but what about the other 49 weeks of the year ?

I think the home resort is important somewhat. If you travel during low times then you will be fine. However, VWL from what I hear at the holidays is nearly impossible to get into. BCV and BWV are hard during the Food and Wine festival. I tried to get into BWV at the 7 month window for July and could not. But that is because I have huge party coming and we needed several rooms. I think if you are flexible then you should be fine. I know there are a lot of people who don't care for SSR, but with that resort you do get 12 extra years. Good luck with your decision.:sunny:

Yes the home resort can be a big factor during some months.
