Is this crazy or would it be cool for Disney to build a DVC cruise ship! The cruise takes so many points that I have always just paid cash for it. This would be a great way to give a different option for vacation without having to use RCI, and it is still Disney! I don't know the feasability of this, could be crazy MF's, just something fun to think about.

omg thats the best idea ever!! but im sure the member cruises they do now are supposed to be the rough equivalent.

besides i think disney is answering the call with the new ships they are building..im dying to get the details on how the new ships will hopefully be new and improved. all ive seen so far are the ship names.

Yeah! Get Off Kilter to perform on the ship and we'd buy!

(just for fun, of course ;))

I wonder how much each point would cost on a ship that costs roughly (conservatively)$600 million to build?

And imagine the dues...I could see special assessments everytime there is a big spike in fuel charges. I think the pure economics just would make this a difficult thing to do, but then again, if there is demand, it can be done.

There is a floating island in use right now, a little different in terms of selling, but basically people buy suites on the ship and the customize them as they want. The ship has its schedule posted for about 1 year and you can come and go as you please (with the exception of international laws) at whatever ports you want to.

If I recall the ship required some multi-million dollar net worth just to be considered. There also some other issues like kitchens, no open flames are allowed and they all require fire safety boxes that seal shut, even if a person is trapped inside.

Plus they couldn't really guarantee long term port fees and destinations/ports that they visit.

It's an intersting idea, but what a regulatory mess. Plus, what country's laws would control the timeshare/co-ownership?
