DVC cruise pts for 2005

Anyone care to guess what the pts would be for a cat 6, and 2 kids age 16,11 for 2005. I KNOW, I am planning WAY ahead, but hey, isn't that the fun part of it? This would be for a 7 day eastern, I noticed the pts went up 5 in the adult cat from 2003-2004, would it only go up 5 again? Also the children pts went WAY up, would this be a trend?? Anyone care to guess? And, 1 last question, when will the pts for 2005 be posted on DVC website, I seem to remember March or April, is this correct?

I don't remember the exact date for the posting, but I think they try to get them up so that January cruisers can book 11 months out. So maybe February sometime. My DD will be 13 for our next cruise, that really made the 3rd person points jump! I'm thinking of paying cash for her. I've been looking at the points for a cruise in Nov. '04, category 6. I told my family that we could trade for four weeks in Cancun, the Caribbean, or Hawaii for a little less points than the cruise. My DH was for it, more scuba diving for him, but DD is not convinced! The points are going higher, that is for sure!!
We just want to go on the 7 day cruise, because we have never done one. Only 4 day DC, and 3 other cruises, all Carnival and 1 Royal Carr.

I think it is a fair statement to say it will cost more DVC points than it does today or 2004. DCL is not DVC and as a result, when you trade, it is "costing" more than if you just paid cash and took advantage of whatever deals are available.

TRUE, BUT, I am not one of those people that can drop 6941 dollars on a cruise. That is what was quoted today for a 7 day eastern June 4,2004. Say next year it will be $7000, I don't know about you, but I can't drop that much every year/every other year.
Points are a lot easier to part with, JMHO.
By the way, the price quote was for 2 adults, 2 children cat 6, if you were interested....

yes, that is quite a chunk of change! we just did the western 7 day cruise the week of memorial day. for us, making the reservation 2 years in advance (July 2001) the price was about $3800 for 2 adults one child cat 7.

just FYI, in my personal opinion, the 4 day DCL cruise is the best. we did that in November 2000 and I thought is was perfect. not too short, not too long. on the 7 day, I didn't particularly like the 2 full days at sea. one day it was pretty stormy and there was clearly a lack of activities. it was a good cruise, make no mistake, I just think that the 4 day was much more enjoyable. by day 6, I was ready to be done with the cruise.

WE have been on three disney cruises (7days) and are doing number four in December. The first was all cash, the second all points, numbers three and four are points for one adult one child and cash for one adult. For us it works, we bought DVC especially to cruise, I would rather spend $1650.00 a year to cruise in a cat 6 than go to vero where we bought. I don't care about the calculations of the "best value" etc. we bought to cruise, Our points are paid in full so we spend them as we wish. MANY people will tell you it is a poor value but I guess it is what you value, we bought to vacation the way we want and for now this is what we want.

The DVC point chart for 2004 was posted on the DVC member site on March 18, this year. It was available by calling MS for a couple of weeks before that. I was planning a 2004 trip so was paying close attention.

Thanks for the info. Will be waiting or looking in March 2003 for the cruise points. I thought it was around March or April.

What I meant was we are not concerned with the "best value" on our points that since we paid for them in full at the time of purchase we don't really think about their 'worth' but rather how much we enjoy cruising.

Could not agree with you more. If you figure in food, enter, on the ship, this is equal to the "magical" number of $10/pt to rent them. If a cat 6 for 2 adults, 2 childeren is $6910 as quoted. (that is almost 12 mos out!), than I spend 520 pts on it, pay for the one child, I have a $7000 cruise I spent $1300 on! That is what I bought DVC for.. I am not a lawyer nor play one on TV, and do not have $7000 lying around.. I am a "Poor unfortunate soul"....

Ok, cost of cruise- 6941 for 2 a, 2 kids cat 6 ,June 4, 04 for 7 day eastern cruise.
Cost of cruise in pts-757 for ALL, minus the kid-151=606 SO....
If cost of pt=10per pt=6000+$1200 for the kid=7200 for the cruise in pt dollars. A LITTLE more than the 6941,but subtact that and it only costs 259 dollars more even if I went through the HASSLE of renting points. So.... A 7 day cruise cost 7570 if I had that many pts AND rented them ALL at $10/pt..
JMHO..
I still do not see 6-6.50/pt however..
At that rate 7/pt x 757=5299 dollars. I am still $1600 short...
So... Paying for 1 child and "pointing' the rest, you are only behind about $258, if you paid cash for the whole thing.. I don't see where points are "a bad value". YES, paying pts for the whole thing increases "your loss" at $600+ , but by paying for 1 kid reduces "your loss" to $258.. JMHO

200 DVC points will always buy you roughly 1 week in a 1 BR at your home resort. It does not matter if it is 2003 or 2033. That will not change.

However, for every year that passes, 200 points will buy you a smaller portion of a cruise. Since DCL is outside of the DVC Network, inflation will cause the "value" of your points to be less and less every year.

That being said, life is short (so is vacation time and money) so do whatever you like with them. But if someone buys into DVC thinking that they can use the points to go outside of the system (Cruises, Interval International, etc) for the entire 40 years, they are making a bad investment.

Could not agree with you more! That is why we MAY cruise in 05, pretty soon, the cost of 1 adult at summer will be 400 pts for ONE PERSON! Out of my league! Now this may happen in 2010 or 2011,etc. Figure to use points now while it will cover the majority of my family!
Yes, the best use is for DVC resorts, but an occasional cruise, adventure, a trade into II is always welcome.
Hey, they are your points, do with them want you want, I am not paying your bill for dues/payments.

I actually expect the DVC points costs for DCL to go down slightly this year. The reason is this. DVC pays a discounted rack rate and it does not appear they got any deal related to the overall slow down in the travel industry. The way they pay for any direct exchange item is by using the points to rent out room and then the cash to pay for DCL (or other exchange option). I think the increase in cash return for rooms will be higher than any increase in cruise rates.

As for as value, any member should do with their points as they see fit. I can rent out my points and pay cash so I do not necesssarily have to have extra cash laying around. If the return on the actual costs is less than $8 pp, I'll pay cash and rent any points I will not use. In March next year our cruise would be 462 points plus the $95 exchange fee vs only $2632 total on cash. That's less than $6 pp return. Regardless of what I paid or pay yearly for the points, I'd have about $2000 extra by renting out the points. Others don't want to fool with it or take the chance, that's their option.

This may be incorrect. I believe on the DVC website it said $95 exchange for concierge and Adventure collection. I did not see the DCL ships. It said all other remain the same including II exchanges. I will double check, believe that you could save $20!

Prime summer is $6910!! NOW this is 11 mos out, with the early booking discount!! At least I think it is?! If wife and I went, it would be $4000+, so you must be cruising value season.

I very seriously doubt it. You think that money DVC collects on renting out a room is turned over in a fair or logical way to convert to points charged for a DCL cruise? I fully believe that whatever price they charge to rent the DVC room made available is turned into the maximum DVC/Disney profit they can get away with. That being said, DCL is an exchange outside of DVC and as such they will continue to raise the cost on a point basis just as they raise the cash price for a cruise. In fact, even if the cash price were to remain flat, I would still expect the point price for DCL to go up - Disney is going to make (more) money no matter how you slice it.

That's not quite true. While Disney may make a profit on the fee for renting out the rooms, the rest of the money for a cash rental goes directly to DVC. There is not the option for any other group to siphon off the dollars.
