DVC Contract Sales Year 2000 - 2006 Jun

LOL....Have you been reading the posts about DVC cracking down on the transfer of points and only allowing members only to call MS. How many non-DVC people, hell...how many non-DIS members even know about renting points? I didn't know there was such athing into I cam across this site. You keep making some vague assumptions about prospective owners. You need to step outside your "DVC" box and look around.

So what's your explanation for lack of news for the next DVC? Let me guess, they may not build one or they have not decided yet. Wrong on both counts - it's only to support SSR sales.

If you think this through you'll conclude that the issue is not how many non-DVC people know about renting points, it's how many prospective DVC owners who are ready to buy understand that points can be rented. The answer is nearly 100% - it is routinely mentioned as an advantage during the sales process. Many people here rented before buying. My assumptions are very specific and actually very much in the mainstream. The latest buzz will have no impact on the demand for rentals, it might raise rental prices a bit in the short-term but nothing more.

Dude....you are guessing! Like I stated earlier, I am commenting on the post. I have no more facts then you do. I don't work for DVC or Disney...Do you? I don't think so. DVC is getting up towards 100,000 members. How many of them do you really think are on the DISboard? There is slightly over 100,000 registered users for this sight. How many do you think are DVC members?

Any way to know how many points these estimated 44,000 contracts represent?
A reasonable number to use over the past couple years is that the average contract size sold is 180 points.

(44,000 SSR contracts) x (180 points/contract) = 7,920,000 SSR points sold

Or roughly 8 million SSR points through June 2006

Using a simple price of $95 per point, that's a minimum of $750,000,000 total sales.

In late April or early May 2002 we got a call from DVC about points being available at Boardwalk. There was some large number - I remember being told it was something like 30K - that they had available and we had been on the waiting list for a year or so. We ended up buying only a small number of points for BWV but added a 3rd contract for BCV before it sold out.....so we were part of that spike.

Exactly, I do think many, many would wait (renting points for a year is not so bad). I think DVC understands this clearly and this is why there has been no announcement re: what's next. A CRV announcement would certainly stall SSR sales.

Oh, sure. $12 per year for two years to rent instead of own plus add another 3-4% per year for DVC price increases. Who in their right mind WOULDN'T pay $116+ per point ($93 + 4% + 4% + $12 rental + $12 rental - $4 dues -$4 dues) for something that hasn't even been announced yet. :rolleyes1

So what's your explanation for lack of news for the next DVC?

Simple: This is Bob Iger's Disney and he's going to do things his own way and announce them when he's good and ready. Witness Nemo ride at The Living Seas, Monsters Inc. attraction at Tomorrowland, Nemo show at DAK...all were under construction for months before they were formally announced.

DVC hasn't even broken ground on a new resort yet. What would announcing the resort accomplish? 2 1/2 years of hype and publicity is going to be just as effective as 3.
