DVC Coffee Snob Thread (non snobs welcome too)

I have a slightly larger pour-over for home--I can serve 2-3 people with it. I do not have the capacity to make coffee At Scale, but I am usually only brewing for one.

https://www.bodum.com/us/en/11571-109us-pour-over
ahh I had a Chemex that was large like this. Honestly cant remember if it broke or if I gave it to my Mom. I hated folding the Chemex filters. But I have since learned I was making it more complicated than it needed to be.

I do. I have so many coffee contraptions.

Espresso machine (decided its not worth it to use much)
V60 Pour over (use several times a week)
French press (use rarely, but will use it for Cacao "coffee")
Percolator (use when my mom visits since that thing is frustrating with the filters, but it makes the best coffee for more than 1 person)
Keurig (take this on my travel where I am driving)
Nespresso (use this often)
I no longer have an espresso machine.

I've got all the rest and an old Tassimo machine.
I liked the Tassimo pods better than Nespresso, but it became difficult to get easily.

I keep a small supply of Nespresso and occasionally will make it for me but friends go for it all the time when they come over. (I have a small coffee bar set up.

Love french press coffee when I get a grind I like. Again, when I need coffee in the morning it's work and I rarely drink it later than breakfast.

Percolator and pour over are gathering dust in the pantry high cupboards.

So I default to Keurig on an everyday basis because it's just easy.

The pod machines are so so easy. I had never heard of a Tassimo so I googled it to take a peek!

Hello All! I am a DVCer at heart only, I’m afraid, but when I saw your coffee thread in the “New” section, I couldn’t help but jump in. My coffee snobbishness prevents me from regressing to any instant coffee or being able to drink more than a few sips of coffee made from a pod. It is not that I have anything against the pod concept, I have just never had coffee from one that wasn’t too weak for my taste. Also, I try to avoid coffee anywhere where I know it is being made from a syrup.

I do not enjoy hot flavoured coffees, but will drink them iced. I do love adding an occasional shot of something to flavor a hot coffee, like whiskey, Amaretto, Amarula, etc…

I like my coffee strong and medium-to-dark roasted, black or with cream. I enjoy lots of espresso beverages, too, from shots to flat white. I own a burr grinder, and buy both beans and ground coffee. I have a French press, mocha pot, espresso maker, pour over and electric drip makers. Yes, I use them all, selection depends on my mood and how much time I have. I love being able to control the strength, but have never been pleased with my own efforts to steam milk. Oh well, that’s what coffee shops are for!

All time favorite beans and brews for me have been Jamaican Blue Mountain and Kona blends. Impossible to buy around home (Nova Scotia) but when I travel, I shop more for coffee than anything else!

My very first visit to WDW in 1994, was memorable in so many ways, including the first time a cup of coffee truly got my attention. It was in the Fountain at the Dolphin. My family was enjoying milkshakes but I caught the coffee aroma as soon as we walked in. It was Colombian, and sparked love at first sip. Now, I enjoy a Joffrey’s latte every morning while we are in town, and drink coffee the rest of the day anywhere the coffee hits my nose just right. Most recently, i really enjoyed the one at Storybook Dining at Artist Point!

Funny aside for those who hate Joffrey's. Personally I don't mind them - they're not the World's best, but compared to what Disney had before them, they're like royalty. Joffrey's signed on as official supplier in 2013, and had been around as specialty supplier from the mid-90s. But before that, Disney's coffee was supplied by Nescafe. The same instant coffee famous from WWII. It was awful. I literally could not drink coffee when I went to Disney unless it was one of the few restaurants that did their own bean...everything else throughout the parks and resorts was Nescafe instant.

It's that memory of the horrible Nescafe instant coffee that makes be avoid Nespresso - just the name itself is too close, even though the Nespresso machines use real ground coffee...I am thinking about instant coffee whenever I see the 'Nes' in the name.
100% agree! I avoid any coffee any place where there is any indication of a Nespresso product being served. I remember trying desperately to get a coffee in MK one night. A real coffee. One not made from the Nestle syrup. Nope. I was beyond thrilled to see Joffreys and Starbucks show up and actually brew coffee.

I no longer own the Nespresso that has a milk steamer. What I have resorted to is warming my milk in the metal cup on a coffee warmer then I froth with a cheap IKEA frother. For sure not just like coffee shops steamed milk but it gives me that extra foam I crave.

Does anyone have an espresso machine? Not that I need one but have considered it.
We have a De'longhi Dinamica and love it. Lattes every day. This one is nicely automated, it grinds the beans and spits the puck into a bin. We paid our dues with an old school tamping kind before this one so the ease is appreciated. This one is still going strong after 4 years.

That sounds amazing. It was the tamping that got me sour on busting it out more often.

This 100%. Get a super automatic and never go back. Coffee, espresso, cappuccino, it does them all excellently. We have a Jura E6 and it was well worth the $. Find a good locally roasted bean and you're all set.

A sub community of Nespresso lovers among the Disboarding DVCers? Wow, I really have found the right place...

I have an Essenza Mini (original pods) and an Aeroccino 4. I originally purchased it for the occasional espresso based bevvie at home. Once or twice a month I would get a craving, and I got tired of receiving sub-par espresso drinks out and about. I told myself I would mostly drink decaf, as I was in one of my famous low to no caffeine periods at the time. (Caffeine and I have a long, sordid history.) Well, things escalated quickly, and now I usually drink a caffeinated espresso shot, straight up, roughly every other day.

I had a shot of Kona before going to the gym this morning. My new favorite...sadly my last one...😥 As you can see, I love their drinkware as well.

My caffeinated orientation is fluid, in that I drink tea just as much as, if not more than, coffee. Black, Green, Oolong, Matcha...I like it all. And in the summer afternoons I like a caffeinated Nuun tab (flavored electrolytes with 40mg caffeine) with a can of Spindrift over ice - ahhh!). I find that by keeping tea sources in my rotation I'm able to sustain the caffeine habit without getting burnt out on it (anxiety, etc. - I have never been a ridiculously huge consumer either, I think I'm just sensitive). Most days I have a small serving (40-80mg) three times a day.

When at WDW, I usually go for the Twinings tea in the room, though occasionally I'll make a single pod of coffee. I just always use the "strong" setting and the smaller cup size on a Keurig, as I agree with others that the regular version is way too weak. I actually really enjoyed the Disneyland anniversary pods at Aulani recently. Made the strong way, with a splash of lactose-free milk 😅...suited me just fine.

If I need a pickmeup in the parks, I go for unsweetened iced tea or black cold brew. I do not like super sweet drinks. (If I do order a sweet latte I always ask for only 1 pump of syrup - most drink recipes are 4 or more). There are two specialty iced coffee drinks I really enjoy, though, and they are a must for me every time. The Cold Brew Black Caf from Kat Saka's Kettle in Galaxy's Edge (unsweetened cold brew topped with sweet cream cheese foam and Cocoa Puffs - just typing that I'm like "what in the lactose intolerance, how can you drink that" but I LOVE it), and the Kristoff Kaffe from Kringla Bakery in Norway. It's a frozen coffee topped with cocoa pebbles. (Yep, I clearly have a thing for kids' cereals....I think it's the added texture I love!) I find that both of these beverages are well-balanced and not too sweet.

We are so happy you found us!!

I am so jealous of those cereal coffees at the parks, since we are non dairy they are a no go for me.

I also have a sordid history with caffeine/coffee. I have actually realized coffee has caused some major stress for me at times, once I almost missed a flight to Hawaii because I had to have my fix and i ordered at the Starbucks not in my terminal by accident! I still wont give it up. I have tried many times.

Traveling without a caffeine addiction is definitely easier! Especially across time zones or when doing any camping. We went to Utah a few summers ago in a camper van and I was caffeine-free for that trip, and it was so easy to roll out of the van for an early morning hike with nothing but water and a bit of food. (My husband doesn't do coffee or any sort of morning caffeine, either.) We are going back this summer and I'm already mincing over whether to figure out the caffeine situation for the van or wean myself ahead of time...

Which reminds me: the subject of instant coffee came up earlier in this thread, and there is a brand that I actually find pretty decent. It is called Mount Hagen, it is organic and fair trade, it comes in individual sticks or multi-serving bags, decaf and regular, and you can get it on Amazon. I have also tried the Starbucks instant sticks and I like the Mount Hagen better. The Starbucks tastes like it's trying too hard to be normal coffee and I think it overcompensates on the darkness and heft on the palate.

Don't get me started on airport Starbucks. Every time, I swear to my family that it's the last time, but my kids love a Starbucks croissant before an early morning flight. But the mobile ordering situation at our airport is out of control. I thought I was ahead of the system recently, because I placed a mobile order as soon as we got on the parking shuttle, 90+ minutes before our flight. The app said "more than 20 minutes," but after the order went through it said it would actually be 50-74. !!! Well, 70 minutes later we were boarding the flight with no croissants. Sad trombone.

I've been burned by in-person ordering at our airport Starbucks, too. I've seen varying accounts of whether in-person or mobile gets priority, but it would seem that, at our airport at least, all orders go into the same queue.

From now on, my kids can settle for the bagel place a few gates down. 🤣

Im going to try out a travel friendly aeropress! I will report back. Its the water boiling that may be harder..
