We will be at Boardwalk Inn in a couple of weeks and might get a tour or whatever's available to look into the DVC. Our two favorite vacation spots are DW and Myrtle Beach. My question is - do any of the DVC collections have good Myrtle Beach options - has anyone used them?

When I signed up you could deposit a week & try to trade for Yaughtsman (near the Pavillion/pier area - too crowded for my tastes) and few others that we've never personally visited. Don't know if they're still in the program, would address question directly to DVC/guide.

We try to visit MB each summer. Depending on the season, & you're probably better off waiting for the bigger resorts to release their "specials".

Take a look at the II World Passport Collection list at http://disney.intervalworld.com/iw/cs?a=5

I've never stayed there, but if I were trading into in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, my first choice would be Marriott's OceanWatch Villas at Grande Dunes.

Depending on the time of year, it might be a difficult trade because it's a new resort, and exchanges are available to other Marriott Vacation Club owners for 24 days before they become available for other (not Marriott-to-Marriott) II exchanges.

There are other options in addition to the Marriott resort, but you would need to do some more research to see which of them would a worthwhile trade using valuable DVC points.

We have tried for 2 years in a row trying to trade into myrtle beach and have had no luck either year. We tried to do it a year in advance and went on wait list but got nothing. We were trying for the end of june - end of august.

We've gone to Myrtle Beach probably 8 out of the last 10 years. We go in April with a group of friends during school break. MB is so inexpensive I can't imagine that it would be worth trading your DVC points to stay there.

You get the best value when you use your DVC points to stay in a DVC resort. Don't buy with the intent to trade out a lot. There are other timeshares that you can buy and be in better shape for trading.

I have a questions about trading in general. I am in the process of buying 200pts at SS. I just signed the contract yesterday, but not sure if it will make it through without Disney buying it back. I have my fingers crossed! :)
But I was wondering about the exchanges in the Member Getaways. I saw the link and the places where you can go through the II, but how does it work? It doesn't show point values on that site. Are they based on points, or do they take away points based on the week you want to stay or something like that?

I have traded a reservation for a timeshare week with an owner; I've alsol traded a friend for their beach house and rented points to get the cash needed for a rental. ther's alot of ways to make it work that are more equitable than a trade through DVC.

The premier property in MB will be the Marriott. No way those units will go to non Marriott exchangers during peak times. One either needs to own there or another good Marriott to trade in. Off peak times are a different matter and anyone could get in. but you wouldn't want to give up that many DVC points for something you could get for less than $1000 for a 2 BR.

I've stayed at Marriott's Ocean Watch, but I didn't use DVC points to do it, so I don't know how hard or easy it would be to get thru II. It is, however, one terrific resort!
One caveat though: there will be construction for some time to come. A total of 5 buildings are planned. 2 are open. A third is significantly under way. This building includes a parking ramp, check-in facilities, and many other amenities. Once this building is completed, I think the majority of the construction inconveniences will be over. I don't think construction of the last 2 buildings will have much of a negative effect on staying there.

Thanks for the info - I think the best thing to do might be to look at a Marriott TS and a DVC a separate possibilities. Any leads into Marriott boards that are as helpful as this one?

For all things timeshare outside DVC, I'd lead you to the Timeshare Users Group (TUG) at www.tug2.net. They have BBS, reviews, ratings, advice sections and the like. Much is accessible for free but some require you to join. Last I knew it was $15 for year one and $10 thereafter and included a free add per year. More than worth the money IMO.

To generalize, I think owning DVC and Marriott is a great combo, many of us have done so. But you need to get educated. If you will go to MB and WDW routinely, you may want to buy at MB as well as DVC. If you want to do a lot of trading, other choices are likely better.
