Hello all,

On the DCV dvd there is a resort that shows a chair that pulls out into a bed. I don't recall what resort it is, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what type of accommodations, ie, studio, one bedroom have this chair? I'm hoping it's a studio, it might just convince us to consider buying a dvc resale! Thanks so much. :flower3:

Michelle

Bay Lake Tower ( newest DVC accommodations ) at Contemporary Resort will have pull-out sleeper chair in 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom villas. It will be in living room along with double pull-out sofa bed.

Also, except for value category, at AKV - Jambo House I believe some ( but not all ) 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom villas feature pull-out sleeper chair as well.
At still under construction Kidani Village at AKV all 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom villas will have pull-out sleeper chair.

There are no other DVC resorts with sleeper chair available.

Studios do not have sleeper chair.

With the exception of value villas, AKV 1 and 2 bedrooms has the pull-out chair.

BLT 1 and 2 bedrooms will have the pull-out chair as well.

The THV's will also have the sleeper chair.

Thanks so much for your replies. I really appreciate it.
Well, with the pull out chair not being in the studios, it looks
like DVC is out for us. :sad2: Thanks again for taking the time
to reply.

Warning: mini vent. Ok, I'm replying to my own post. This just does not make sense. So, if you have two girls or two boys you can rent a studio and you're good to go.
However, if you have one of each, you're out of luck, you have to use double the points and get a one bedroom. C'mon Disney! How about a Poly type set up, or a sleeper chair?
I just need to know if I'm totally off base here folks. Am I the only one that's saying HUH? :cool2:

they except you to treat it like you would a regular hotel room - you sleep with one child, your spouse with the other one.

most DVC resort studios have one queen bed and a double sleeper sofa.

OKW has 2 queen beds - in your case would buy here. then go get an air mattress - lots of OKW members with your problem do that. You can get a queen air mattress to fit at OKW - but not at the others. so get a double (full) air mattress to really be on the safe side get a twin air mattress.

remember for the air mattress you will need to bring the bedding.

Our kids were 5 (boy) and 8 (girl) when we purchased DVC. We bought points and planned trips to get a 2BR. Fifteen years later, when they both go with us, they still share a room. The 2 Queen beds are fine. Plus, through the sloppy, messy teenaged years, it was nice to just be able to close the door to the room.

That's why we bought DVC -- to have the comforts and extra space. Occasionally, we've had to do a 1BR for the 4 of us and while it's do-able, it's not our preference. We never put 4 in a studio -- we could do that with any hotel room and when we have to do it, the privacy issues (not just who sleeps in which bed) make for a not-so-nice visit.

Now most of the time, it's just DH and me on the vacations, we still get a 1BR, rather than a studio. We love the kitchen, being able to do laundry right in the room, and the separate areas. (DH usuallly gets up early to work an hour or two, even on vacation.)

And no, we are not wealthy people. We just know that we like to be comfortable on vacation, and DVC gives us that option! We'd rather have fewer nights in comfort than many nights feeling cramped. After all, we still have many more years of enjoying our points; we'll eventually get to see and do everything we want. ;)

that say I am on a budget - studio are great for those of us who have to budget.

1-bedroom are wonderful and occasionally will allow myself a 1-bedroom - but when I do that means less trips or shorter trips.

You do? My son and daughter have been sharing a bed on vacation for a decade.

A lot of people bring an air mattress (aerobed) if they have kids who won't share a bed well - which is not just an issue with opposite gender children - its also an issue when you have one who is a kicker, or two that pick on each other, or big teenage boys. DVC sometimes has air mattresses available, but you are best off bringing your own.

As the years pass and our kids grow up we have really come to appreciate the value of 1 & 2 bedroom villas more than ever. They are so worth the extra points; it is great to have the living room/kitchen area for the whole family to enjoy and master bedroom for us parents.
 washer & dryer too !

I think a sleeper chair only sleeps one person, so a studio having one and a regular bed would only fit three people anyways. The Boardwalk studios, at least, are slightly smaller than some of the regular hotel rooms, so there wouldn't be room for a bed, a sleeper sofa, and a sleeper chair -- only one or the other of the sleeper options. All hotel rooms that claim they sleep four are only going to give you two beds, so I'm not sure why a studio would be expected to be any different.

A studio is only intended (IMO) to be a hotel room + kitchenette, so it makes perfect sense to me. Those who want the extra room are supposed to get a 1BR, which until these newest resorts has the same stated occupancy of 4 as the studios, anyways. I think it just depends on the family what works for sleeping arrangements. Growing up with both a sister and brother, staying mostly in hotel rooms that allowed 5 but didn't have extra beds we did all sorts of different things...sleeping bag on the floor, pillows down the middle of the bed to keep my sister from crowding me/accidentally smacking me in the head, etc. We made it work because we were happy to be on vacation, and hadn't known anything different. Honestly, I preferred sharing a bed with my brother to my bed-hog sister. ;)
I think it will be interesting to see how we decide to use our points...right now we're happy with studios and more frequent vacations. When the kids are older, we may switch to 1BRs...who knows?

Well this issue will come up at the mods (except if you get a trundle at POR but that only works for kids who are under maybe 5' tops) and the values as well as some of the deluxe's (like AKL and WL in non bunkbed rooms). At the mods, you can get a rollaway for around $17 a night. I did that at CSR and even with that extra charge, I came in way under a deluxe. I have heard some people say they have gotten rollaways at the values as well.

In my dreams, the studios and the one bedrooms would all have two beds (either two queens or one and sofa bed in a studio) and the chair bed. I have a boy and a girl too. What I have done for years when travelling at all resorts but the deluxe's that have the daybed (and the Disneyland Resort hotels in CA which all three have something for a third bed option) is take my twin sized air bed. I have used that all the values, mods and the DVC's. Because even in a one bedroom, I have needed it. It folds up in a suitcase, I take my own sheets and even my own blanket. It blows up when I plug it in, some have pumps that operate with batteries. Even with some of the airlines charging for a checked bad, I take it. Because if I stay someplace that has rollaways, at $17 a night, taking my airbed pays for itself in two nights if I have to pay to check it. And the DVC's do not have rollaways and I do not wish to sleep with my daughter while my husband sleeps with my son. I know that works fine for some people but I just prefer to sleep with my husband and taking the airbed is easiest for us.

This issue has complicated my ability to book some cruise staterooms too.

Its a pain but I have dealt with it for years. I wish Disney would think about this and do something about it, in the meantime, my airbed works fine.

I do have to say, in a DVC studio (except for OKW) it does get more complicated. At SSR for example, I had to move the ottoman to the entrance hall (which was fine) to make room for the sofa bed, and the airbed. I also had to shove the table and chairs a bit to make room. However, like another poster, I need studios more than not since I like to take more than one trip per year and even with 400 points, I need a studio for one of those trips, sometimes two.

But my family of four has done studios at SSR and OKW with the airbed and done just fine. Someday when the kids are grown, I can't wait to stay in a studio and never undo that sofa bed or move one piece of furniture!

I am not saying you should buy DVC or not. But this issue will get you at anything other than a deluxe with a daybed. And that scenario is the exact dynamic when DVC will save you a ton of money through the years.

Ok, I guess I am way off base here, then. I asked for opinions and I got them though.

I had read some other threads on Disboards and another board that had suggested such a thing for a number of reasons. Younger kids that kick and keep each other up, an older girl and boy that would prefer their own bed, a family of five, etc. I just thought it sounded like a good idea.
Not everyone can afford a one bedroom, and this seemed like a nice solution.

I know that some people bring blow up beds, but to be perfectly honest, I don't want to have to pack a blow up bed, pump, pillow, and sheets and haul it on the plane with me. I do realize that it is an option if I want to save money, though.

In our particular situation we own a farm and my husband works 80 hours a week. At first I was checking into a regular purchase, which is out of our ball park. Then I was thinking that we could buy a reasale of 50 points, and rent a studio once every other year. That is something we could reasonably afford, and would love to do.

I really wasn't trying to make an 'angry' vent, just a 'how come they don't have this option' vent. :flower3: Thanks for your opinions.

how old are your children?

some kids are perfectly happy sleeping on the floor in the sleeping bags (easier to carry and lighter than the air mattress - although they definitely have some now at Walmart that don't take a lot of room at all)

I totally understand where you are coming from! For years before going to WDW, we did Disneyland and as I said earlier, those hotels have either daybeds, free rollaways or provide sleeping bags and pads to their guest. So when we started doing WDW, it was sort of a surprise to us that thier hotels didn't have more options for their main group, families.

Lugging the airbed is a bummer, but I am used to it now. My son is 5'6" and a sleeping bag isn't all that comfortable. I literally keep the thing packed, we never use it except to go to Disney. It takes about five minutes to set it up, and we keep it blown up the whole trip. In an OKW studio, it slides under one of the beds during the day. Which is why for studio stays, OKW is my first choice.

Good luck with your decision, I feel your pain. One of the biggest reasons I balked at purchasing DVC was when I realized that in order to avoid this issue I needed a two bedroom. Frankly, I think members should be able to rent rollaways for a flat rate of say $20 per stay at the very least. In my dreams I know!

You're not off-base & your question is certainly a valid one.

Occupancy in studios as in any other hotel room has to comply with fire regulations so unfortunately imho I don't think Disney will add pull-out chair into studios and as others have mentioned some if not most don't have alot of extra area available when the pull-out sofa is open.

Have you gone over each resort's point charts to get an idea what a 1 bedroom villa may total for your family (depends on resort, season you plan to travel etc ) - - if you banked 50 points into upcoming use year that would give you 100 points every other year for your trip and if you bank and borrow that would give you 150 points every third year to use.

Maybe things aren't out of reach using those options.

Good luck on your planning :wizard:

Thanks again for all the replies. It's good to hear ideas and feedback from other people. :thumbsup2

You all made some good points. I know that several of the deluxe hotels have bunk beds or two beds and a day bed in their regular rooms, so I guess my thinking was that if they can provide it in their regular rooms, why not in some DVC studios. I have always thought of DVC as being in the 'deluxe' category. I just thought it would be a nice affordable option. I can see that it's possible that there could be a space issue with the mini kitchens, ect.

I'm not by any means trying to be defensive or offend anyone, just letting you know my thoughts.

Keep Disney's motivations in mind. Disney has no desire to give you a Deluxe resort at an affordable price - what they want you to do is buy DVC and decide studios are not enough - you need the one and two bedroom. Disney isn't out to save you money, they are out to increase their profitability. DVC is a very effective way for Disney to INCREASE the number of dollars regular Disney guests spend at Disney.

DVC resorts are their own category. I really wish we wouldn't say around here that DVC is the same as - or even better than - a Deluxe. It isn't. Its an orange to a Deluxe resorts apple. Not necessarily better, not necessarily worse - a lot of people really do prefer the oranges - but you can't make an apple pie with them.
