DVC Cash Discount

We have never had the need to use this option, so I am somewhat unfamilar with the procedure.

Do I contact MS, ask for them to check my dates and location for a cash discount.

Is the discount a certain percentage and does this stay the same year round? How far out from your trip can you book a discount? Are they limited to how many are offered at each location.

Thanks for any clarification you can share. I want to have some idea of what I am doing before I call.

Is this option covered in the member guide or on the DVC member site?

The member discount is a flat 25%. Rooms are only offered at this discount when DVC's little computer programs begin to project that all of the rooms will not be booked for any given date by members using points. So, forget the high-occupancy periods. Your best bet would be weekends and other slower periods at the big resorts like OKW and SSR.

The discount is intended to be used by members only, so your name will have to be on the room (you can't reserve in another's name) and obviously you can't get two rooms at the discount for the same date.

Also, when you book rooms at the DVC cash discount, you still only get housekeeping within the published DVC schedule. If you are paying cash for some nights and points for other nights, you can have the reservations linked together which should insure that you don't have to change rooms.

That helps alot, actually we were considering paying cash for a weekend and OKW or SSR is where I was interested.

It's pretty short--only 5 or 7 days. So you can certainly book now and change your mind later. You credit card isn't billed until arrival. DVC should be able to confirm.

One other thing I forgot to mention. It's been stated here that if you call DVC and they tell you that there are not any rooms available at the discount, you can still book at full price and they will apply the discount automatically if the computers determine that inventory dictates offering discounted rooms.

Of course it's a bit of an oxymoron to imply that booking a room would help keep inventory high. But the only other alternative is calling at regular intervals to find out if discounted rooms have been offered and if they are available. Realistically, for a weekend I doubt you'll have problems.

Also note that you will have to pay tax on the room. Take the rack rates posted on Disney's web site, reduce by 25%, and then add-in about 11.5% for the room tax.
