We are planning to take a trip at the end of the month. We just joined the DVC. I am new so I am not quite sure how this all works. If you dine at a restaurant and present your DVC card do you get some sort of a discount? Do you have to present it at the beginning of the meal? Also, when making reservations, do you need to indicate that you are a DVC member.

Do they ask for ID... to go along with the card... The reason I am asking is that we will also be traveling with my brother and sister in law and their 3yr old. However one of the nights my husband and I are meeting a business associate of my husband and my bro and sis in law graciously agreed to watch our 3 children and take them to dinner and take them to the parks. I was wondering if I could let them use our card for dinner. How strict are they regarding ID.

Also, on another note, do you receive discounts on pictures and the gift shops throughout the parks.

Thanks for being patient with a newbe.

Check the member website to find out which specific restaurants are giving DVC discounts at this time. They change periodically. Usually the bill has to be presented in whole for everyone at the table to get the discount. If your guests are dining without you at a restaurant that takes the DVC discount, they may be able to use it with just the keys that say "DVC member", but some are requiring the blue member card along with the key to the world card. The name would have to match the name on the key. The discount isn't much. I believe it is about 10% most places on the list with a few at 15%. If you have annual passes, the DDE card will be a 20% discount at more restaurants. Even at that, it just covers the gratuity, so I wouldn't sweat the minimal discount for one meal.

No discounts on merchandise in the parks, but you do get a discount at World of Disney in DTD.
