DVC card tip

Hi guys. Just driving back from a nice trip to the tree houses and I wanted to share a tip that worked for me. Since magic bands I hate to carry a wallet around with me. This means I never have my DVC card with me when I need it for discounts. Well this time I took a picture of my DVC card with my phone as well as a picture of my license. The cast members never even gave it a second thought when I showed them the pictures. I never tried this method for purchasing alcohol, but it worked every time I needed my DVC card for a merchandise or food purchase. I'm not sure why it took me so many trips to think of this, but I thought I would share in case others hadn't yet tried it. Happy shopping!

With the new card coming out, this might not work.

On the 25th Anniversary page there is a link to receive a Digital version of your Membership card. The blurb mentions the OPs intention: show the photo from your phone when making purchases. It appears as nothing more than a picture of the card. Not sure if there is member data encoded in the mottled blue background (intended for scanners).

The digital card has an expiration date (3 months) on it. I can't tell whether they intend this to be a short term "fix" until they mail out all the new cards or they'll make it available continually with an ever-updating expiration date (so that you need to do a screenshot every three months).

I am not sure that a photo will work in the future as states that you need to download a digital copy (AKA screen shot) of your card that expires in 3 months. I can't figure out how the CMs will know that it expires in 3 month though.

It puts the expiration right on the card when you open the digital version. I did it today and it expires 4/4/16. I just took a picture of the screen.

Great to know! I will definitely use that option next trip. Now if they could only figure out how to link everything to your magic band and have the discounts applied automatically.

Not going to happen. Disney would prefer that you forget to ask for your discount rather than automatically extend them.

Possibly, but every time I bought anything I was always asked by the cast member if I had any discounts. If Disney would prefer I forget about my discounts they would instruct their staff not to remind their guests about them. Plus they could be linked to my
Magic band, but still only be activated if I ask for them.

The Point of Sale (POS) system only talks to the resort reservation system to allow room charging. It's not connected to MDE, so it has no way to know if you are entitled to a discount.

If you want to make a purchase and have the discount automatically applied, you can use the Shop Disney Parks mobile app. The Shop Disney Parks app will allow you to have your purchases sent to the package pickup at the park entrance, your resort or home delivery (US only).
