We were at the DVC office over the weekend. We signed our paperwork, and DSis took the tour. She got the $50 giftcard for taking the tour.

As DL passholders, they are ELIGIBLE FOR THE $15 PER POINT CREDIT that expired last month. So...if you are a DL passholder, you can still buy in at a minimum of 150 points (not 160) and get the $86 per point.

This was Saturday at DL, and is only available to DL AP holders. According to our guide, earliest expiration of this offer is 2/28, but she hasn't heard ANY expiration date for it as of now.

Do the math: Lowest DL pass is $129. Savings on DVC @ $15 per point is $2250. Even flying from the East Coast you save money buying at DL w/ the AP offer. Not to mention the DLR 2 free AP offer for new members.

We've got the perks. We just don't yet have the DVC resort! :lmao:

I didn't pay attention to the offer before, but this sounds so tempting. I've been resisting DVC since I already have a timeshare elsewhere, but with this I may just give in.

PattiPB, that is great!! I wish it was switched around though and was offered at $15 a point, I'd be all over it. That's more of what my budget will allow!! Still holding out though for GC DVC! Then I'm in!

Ok, I am going to throw myself out on a limb right now with this...does everyone pay for the DVC minimum 150 at time of sale? So at the DL AP rate of $89 it would be $13350. So how do people pay that?

Just curious because DVC is a dream of ours...and that offer is VERY tempting!

A lot of people are able to pay cash outright, and some finance it. You can get your own financing like a loan or you can finance right through Disney!
It's usually atleast ten percent down when you finance, 20% if your credit is less than stellar!

Thanks for such a quick reply Matterhorn! (and for not laughing at my silly question!)
I have always wondered about that but didn't want to ask for fear everyone would be "Like...duh!"
And of course the whole financing thing is understood. I just spoke about it to my husband and he was curious how it would work for us if we buy DVC at DL but we frequent WDW?
Also, should we look at more than 150 points?
I don't mean to turn this into a DVC Q&A, but I have tried on the DVC boards and WOW! I get lost in the threads!

So how many points do you use per vacation trip?

Sorry for more questions. That's such a tempting offer

It depends. We are going in April and it is using 102 points for a Thurs, Fri and Sat night at the Grand Californian standard view. However it would have only been 58 points for the same nights at the Disneyland hotel.

It just depends on where you stay and weekend nights are much more than weekdays so I try to never stay on weekends. Sometimes it's even a better deal to pay cash for the weekend night and use points for the weeknights. For instance, it's 24 points per weeknight during my trip, but it's 39 for a weekend night.

Now if you plan to use them at WDW, you are getting a better deal when you actually stay at a DVC resort. For instance, 4 nights standard view at teh Boardwalk ( a deluxe) cost 44 points when we wanted to go in May. Considerably less than the points cost at DL hotels.

If you buy DVC at DL right now, you are actually buying points at Saratoga Springs Resort in FLorida at WDW. There is no DVC yet at DL, they are technically just selling you the one in FLA. So it would be great if you frequent WDW.

Ok, I completely understand that too! Wow...this isn't so bad to grasp!
So like you were explaining above for 4 nights at the BW, does that mean it comes out to 11 pts a night, or 44 pts per night?
Also, DH wants to know it you can get the free APs to WDW even if we buy at DL?

Yes it would be 11 points per night for a standard view, more if you wanted a boardwalk view. Then you can also choose studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom or grand villa depending how many points you want to spend.

Yes for now if you get the free AP deal, you were able to choose DL or WDW. Not sure how long that will last though!

Thanks for the heads up! Sorry to ask these questions...your post says that DL passholders can get the $15 off, and then they get 2 APs if they are new members? What about existing members who buy 150 pts? And, if they are already DL passholders, do they get 2 more APs to use some other year? Sounds like a nice deal! Do you have to be there in person?

ANDREA!!! You have so much information you should be an OWNER!!! Soon, girlfriend...

Couple of responses to people:

I can't believe most people have over $12000 to spend in their pockets. I do believe most people finance some of it in some way, shape or form. The DVC boards are awesome, and the regulars over there have a wealth of information. Those boards, though, can be intimidating. Asking questions about financing or occupancy or stretching points can cause some attitude in my experience.

Buying in now, a NEW member is purchasing 47 years with a "Home" of SSR. However, you can use your points at any of the DVC resorts (or hotels). There is not YET a DL DVC, but you can use points to stay at the DLR hotels. The number of points varies based upon time of year (season), and size of accomodations. For example, this summer we have a studio reserved for 11 points per night at OKW. The 2 BDR for that same 5 nights was 30 point a night.

DL AP SPECIAL! IF you have any level DL AP, and you are a NEW member at DVC touring and buying at DL, you are eligible for the following:
1. $50 gift card for touring.
2. $86 per point at SSR. Will not expire before 3/1 per guide---may be longer.
3. 2 APs for either DL or WDW. $349 value per pass, which means Deluxe at DL or Regular at WDW.

Lots of "if's", but it actually fits many of us regulars on the DL boards! Anyone interested, please PM me and use me as a referral member! I'll happily share the DVC "gift" I'd get if you buy.

I'm almost positive you must be a first-time member to get the perks.

We were given the choice between DL or WDW APs. If you choose DL, you must ACTIVATE by 6/2008. If you choose WDW, the vouchers never expire.

I'm NOT convinced you must buy in person, but it is an incentive aimed at purchasers at DL. If you want to call my guide, PM me and I'll give you her information.

This is such a good deal. I wish I could jump off that fence now but I just can't.

I know what you mean!! If I did, I wouldn't be able to do DL in April or June or probably for about 2-3 years!!! This one-income crap can sometimes be the pits, but I still get my trips in so that's alright!!

Really not trying to put salt in the wounds if you're not ready to buy, but...

DSis bought on Saturday, and was able to get Dec 2006 use year points at SSR. That means that even though it's almost March, she is getting a full 2006 set of points! DL AP rate was $86 per point, plus the two APs for either DL or WDW.

No time to talk...she's using her points for our December trip---gotta go find a Villa for the 7 of us! :cool1:

Thats a great deal for your sister!

You will love SSR once you stay there. Its a beautiful resort. Also, the good thing about using points at DL when you are a SSR owner (as I am) you can book at DLR 11 months out. Since its part of the Disney Collection the 7 month home resort only window does not apply. Good luck getting your December plans in place. We have stayed with family at a 2 bedroom at SSR twice, that ones sleeps eight comfortably and is way less on the points scale than a Grand Villa and easier to book since there are more of them.

Ok, I called the 800 number that was on the DVC website and talked to a guide on the phone about DVC. I then see this thread about better incentives when buying at DL i.e. $15 off pp, 2 free AP's....and now am wondering if I should hop the next plane to DL (or just drive there) and get in on this offer. I'm waiting for the guide that I had talked to the other day to call me back. I am going to ask about this offer. I don't understand how they can have two different incentives for buying at the same place? They asked me where I was calling from when I first phoned. I said California. This would save me almost $1500 on a 150 point purchase and nearly $2000 for 250 points. Is it too late for me do you think? Since I already talked to someone else on the phone? Help!!
