DVC Blue Card benfits!?!

True, but when you do the math of what it is expected to cost, multiply that times a family of four, and that by seven days…. I think they realize they would be leaving too much money on the table.

And it’s not DVD that would be the unit deciding. Even if they offered to cover in full the cost and reimburse DPEP, that division would have to approve any such deal.

I agree with some others who said we may see a discount or special down the line for blue card. But not until they know exactly how the system is working.

I don’t know how to quantify this but I have 2 direct contracts and 1 resale. I have only received upgrades to rooms I’ve booked with direct points. I’ve only been a member for 3 years so I don’t have a lot of pre Covid time to compare. It’s 375 direct 300 resale and I’ve had 3 stays upgraded without asking along with 7 stays not upgraded. Again, no way to quantify but it would be interesting if we could see if it were a “blue card” consideration.
I have never received an upgrade on my direct points.

Add the DVC Golf discount, currently 15% off the rate otherwise paid by those staying on site for tee times at the three 18-hole courses, Palm, Magnolia and Lake Buena Vista courses. Pay $20 a round at the nine-hole Oak Trail course. Juniors (under 18) get another 40% off those DVC discounted prices for both the 18-hole courses and 9-hole course.

You have now had 3 more upgrades than I have had in the 24 years I have been a member.

It appears Disney has already decided for one group that they are going to leave the money on the table. In the past, those who got the Disability Access Service (DAS) pass could, while at a park, get a time for their group to do a ride via the fastpass line so they would not have to wait in stand-by lines (similar to Genie+). The return time given was 15 minutes less than the existing stand-by time. You needed to use a time given before getting another one. That system remains for DAS without making that $15 a person payment for Genie+.

Moreover, with DAS you will now be able to make reservations up to 30-days in advance for two rides for your group without charge for each day you are at WDW. In essence, it appears those who qualify for DAS will not have to pay anything extra for two premier rides.

There are not enough details yet released to know exactly what the pre selection rides will be and exactly how this will roll out for DAS.

There are plenty of threads in the disABILITIES forum to discuss that. So, let’s stick to blue card!

Don't forget access to Top of the World lounge when it opens. And the little Mickey on the park turnstiles turning purple for DVC members. And the ability to pool hop to some of the DVC resort pools.

Those are not associated with blue card though. All owners had access to TOTWL and pool hopping.

The best marketing campaign DVC could offer would be free Lightning Lane passes for blue card members. This would be more of a real benefit of DVC while in the parks and it would make selling DVC at higher point increments alot easier.
I'd be surprised if they did this. If anything, they could give all Deluxe Resort/Villa guests G+ access as Universal does for their top tier resorts. But I think everyone will need to pay for the attraction specific LLs

G+ would be awesome if they did something like that, maybe include some number of LL passes per trip or something. Like if you stay 1-3 days, you get 1 LL pass, 4-7 days you get 2 LL passes, 7-10 you get 3 LL passes or something - that might encourage a lot of split stays though.

I wonder though if instead of free G+ if they would give a discount on G+ and LL passes. For example, 20% off G+ and LL passes for DVC Blue Card holders.

A lot of this will depend on how popular G+ and LL passes are too though - if they are super popular and a cash cow for Disney, I wouldn't expect them to be added free for anyone.

I wouldn't expect any kind of discount associated with Genie+ or IA$. Take a look at the discount for the holiday after-hours event. A paultry $10 off and only for the first 8 nights (out of 24 total nights). I can get a better deal from Sam's Club than I can by being a DVC member. Their tickets are at least $20 less and the discount is available every night. You would think that spending as much as DVC members spend at Disney, that we would at least merit a discount equal to what people get who paid Sam's the princely sum of $45 annually.

We need more real blue card benefits and not just minor discounts. In order to recoup the increased price difference between direct and resale points this would amount to 10k to 30k. Disney needs to show blue card members some real love since there isn't any current massive financial benefits.

I'm pretty sure if you buy resale, you can't use your points at RR or any future DVC property. If they ever get more properties built, this will be a big advantage of a blue card.

It is true for RR and the new DLT, and probably would have been true for Reflections. I'm not so sure that there will be resale restrictions for VGF2 since it will be joining an existing condo association.

The advantage to those direct buyers will only come into play at 7 months when trying to book a non-home resort that is not part of the L14. That's a pretty narrow benefit. It will be many years before there are so many "new" DVC resorts and so few L14 that it becomes a disadvantage to resale buyers who even care about staying at a non-home resort.

Especially at the former pace of one new resort every 4 years. With Reflections "cancelled", there aren't any other resorts in the pipeline after DLT, so maybe by 2031 you might lose access to a total of 4 resorts out of 18? Five or ten years is a long time to wait to enjoy that Blue Card benefit you paid throug the nose for in 2021.

it seems upgrades were occurring more frequently since Covid, but prior to that it doesn’t really happen. Some people felt it was DVCs way to entice people to buy more points as they experience larger accommodations.
