DVC Benefits?

I'll be going to WDW next month and will be staying at AKL Villas. I am not the member on the DVC account, my mother is, but I will have the Member ID card with me, will it be possible for me to benefit from the member discounts at restaurants and stores without my mother there?

A non-member is not entitled to any of the discounts. They are suppose to ask to see your photo ID to make sure that you are the member, however they don't always check. So you can give it a try, but don't expect to receive the discounts. When I was there in Dec, they seemed to be more diligent in checking.

In Disneyland they are very diligent to check the photo ID, so much that during my last visit I started to hand over my DVC card and my photo ID together. It's been a year I've not stayed at WDW so I cannot comment on that.

If they ask for ID and it doesn't match, they'll likely confiscate the card. Why will you have the ID with you?

In my experience, there's only been one time that the CM didn't ask for my photo ID along with my DVC member card.

Being the 25th, and all the special things happening (like the lounge at Epcot), I bet they do a lot of checking this year.

Absolutely agree with the other posters. Only those persons listed on the deed are entitled to a member card and any member benefits. The 25th Anniversary cards are out (got mine a few days ago) and my understanding is that members will need to have either that particular card that has an expiration date or the mobile download of their member card to get any discounts/benefits.

There has been a great deal of abuse of member benefits by those that have sold their memberships but still use their cards as though they were members, family that have the member card in possession but are not on the deed, etc. These new cards are intended for more than just a 25th anniversary celebration. They are to put a stop to those that are not entitled.

If my mother was interested in adding me to the deed as a joint-owner/member is that a possibility/a process that could be done before I went?

Basically, the story is, my mother purchased ownership in the mid-2000s and in 2007 she began having panic attacks when traveling and so I've been the only one to use the points recently. Last year she decided she was done for good, and as I was planning this vacation with my bf I found out about all of these discounts and thus the above predicament presented itself. (Figured I'd give some background as to how this came about.)

So sorry about your mom's panic attacks, Taylor M. I pray she gets better.

Yes, your mom can add you to the deed but it is not a fast process. I didn't see when your trip is. It is the same process as if she wanted to add you to the deed on say, her house, as DVC is deeded real estate. She can call the same # she calls for MS but press the prompt for Administration and ask. I think they can send details. DVC no longer does their own closings so I believe they are recommending 1st American Title since they are pretty much nationwide. There is a fee and your mom's loan MUST be paid off to add anyone else. The fee is somewhere around $500 I believe. And that may be per contract. The entire process generally takes a good number of weeks.

I believe that you can file a new deed with the county yourself for around $50.
