DVC Beds…. Why?

I’m sure there is a reason for it. But why is it that DVC rooms have just a single queen bed vs a king or 2 queens? I can never wrap my head around this.

You mean the studios? So you have more room in the room. A king bed is quite a bit bigger.

OKW studios and VGF resort studios have two queens.

Move out of the studios and into 1 bedroom + villas to get a King.

They have 2 sleeping surfaces...

2 queen - one as a standard bed and another as a couch/convertible bed....

Grand Floridian does offer the 2 Queen Setup in the new building...

Vero Beach historically did.

I believe Old Key West does offer 2 "normal" beds as well.

As for why no Kings - I think it is because they felt the sleeping 4 vs. sleeping 2 or 3 strategy was a better way to go... I also think it helps move people who want a king into a 1 BR.

I think it's probably so that when you're not sleeping, you can put one bed up to have a couch and more living space.

It’s the whole home away from home idea when they added after OKW. It made it a studio vs just a hotel room.

This. Half the reason I bought DVC was because I was sick of staying in tiny hotel rooms. I have actually never stayed in a DVC studio, and don't really have any plans to do so.

I've had 3 people in OKW studios (with the two "real" beds) and it is fine. I still book them if I'm low on points for 1 or 2 people. But a One Bedroom is much better, given the washer dryer, and full kitchen. It really is a Home Away from Home. I often book a one bedroom even for solo trips. In the beginning DVC really wasn't designed to be studio heavy, the original buy in was 230 points, and at OKW that was enough for 10+ days (Sunday to Friday) in one bedrooms, And 23 days (Sunday to Monday) in studios, depending upon season. Also all studios/one bedrooms at OKW are lock-offs, so they can be used as two bedroom units, Studios were downplayed during the sales presentation, as something available if needed, but they were really pushing the "Home Away From Home" resort concept. In fact, prior to DVC being classed as "Deluxe" they were originally called "Home Away from Home" resorts.

I think a studio with a king bed option would be very popular and yet they haven't done it yet and probably never will or at least not without a premium. The duo studio makes more sense to me for them to sell a tiny little space and make some money off that, but a king bed in a studio is sure to lose some people that would normally stay in one bedrooms.

I guess i can see the idea behind giving you more space in your room, I guess we are just not in the room long enough to care and id rather have the extra sleeping space. Guess I need more points, oh darn lol

King or queen bed makes no difference to me. Either way I get roughly six inches on the edge while the wife sprawls out.

DVC won't add in a king for studios. They want you to get the 1BR or bigger so you use more points, which means you'll need to buy more points. For cash hotel rooms, I believe they have options for a king bed room or a 2 queen rooms.

Also remember that most timeshares have rooms that sleep up to 4, not rooms that sleep only 2. This makes DVC more compatible for trading options with whichever trade partner they contract,

It’s a balancing act already for room/villa assignments - the more categories there are, the harder it is to maximize occupancy. Adding a king bed option to the current studio 2 queen bed set up would double the studio booking options & further reduce room/villa assignment flexibility. Not to mention reducing the number of studios able to sleep 4/5 & likely irritating the huge cohort of folks w/ travel parties of 4/5 who book studios to save points.

Really? These studio refurbs with the queen murphy bed are pretty tight. Even the larger ones like PVB and VGF

Well, I know a King wouldn't fit in a Grand Californian studio. They don't even have room for a 2nd nightstand!

I don't think so, the space between the two queen beds is pretty tight. OKW has fairly large studios, but the layout would be quite tight as is if you needed the Pack N Play, given the table and chairs and the doorway to the kitchenette and bathroom.
