DVC Beach Club Check In Desk

DD is arriving at BCV on Wed and I've ordered 2 cases of water that should be delivered today or tomorrow.....I guess she'll have to check in at the Villas and then stand on another line at the front desk to retrieve her water???? Seems silly.

Well that's retarded. What does the other person do without a computer and printer? :sad2: It's not like there's that many villas that they need a separate desk. Are we just too demanding about rooms and locations, unlike the BC paying guests who take what they give them b/c they don't know any better?

Maybe soon they'll issue us big, bright red "D"s to wear on our backs, so when we walk through the resort (assuming they'll let us go through to get to Cape May...) everyone will be able to recognize us and stay away.

Maybe this separate desk shouldn't bother me so much, but it does. I'm not feeling the  !!!

OK, so if I dare cross the BC entrance, will they let me check in at the BC desk, or will they send me over to the Villas? Cause I'm going straight into the lobby and standing in line. Or will there be a trap door in the floor?

We're probably only allowed in the lobby now in the off hours. Or they're going to make us cover our heads with paper bags or something so the sight of us doesn't offend their "paying guests" :snooty:

I like to think of this as a positive rather than a negative thing. I've been in line at BC many times waiting and waiting while CMs check in BC guests who have many, many questions. I'm also hoping that by having a separate BCV check in the CMs manning that desk will be more familiar with DVC in general. I'm happy that BC/BCV management is trying new things. Only time will tell if this will work out better for villa guests but I'm hoping I can give it a try on our October trip!

I also will be there in October to see for myself but I too, think of this as a positive step. In the past there have been posts complaining of the long waits at the BC Check-in desks and wishing we had our own check-in. Now we do! I will still definitely have to walk through the main lobby to say Hi to Art and just for the wonderful feel the lobby has but I'm hoping for our own check-in to be a positive experience.

When I saw the new check-in desk at BCV-DVC, my first thought was... "DVC? Oh, we already have your money! Please step outside and don't bother us..."

Maybe I shouldn't be thinking that way, although there were two CM's there was only ONE computer and ONE printer!

I'm pretty sure that when I checked in on 9/4 there were two computers, one for each of the CMs. However, I'm sure that there was only one printer. When the "non-printer" CM tried to print something out for me, I remember she had to lean over past the other CM to get it. I thought it was rather poor placement (my workplace layout training at work!)

It's not all DVC members. Just the ones from Texas. :hippie:

Actually it's just the BCV ones from Texas. ;)

I do think this could be a good thing if it was done for the right reasons. But I know that many DVCers, myself included asked for a seperate check in area when the BCV were opened and I was told, no way.

Now they do it and I am told it was done due to complaints from nonDVC members. :confused3

I just think this is another case of nonDVC guests having more clout lately with getting issues resolved than DVC members and that stinks. :headache:

Is there a Bell man or some way for them to hold your luggage at the BCV desk, in case your room isn't ready yet? Or do you need to cart the bags to the BC lobby?

Another Pesky Texan DVCer;)

Wouldn't it be better to just call bell services once she's in her room regardless of where she checks in. And it's not as if we're forbidden to check in at BC as far as I've read.

I feel the same way. I've long thought that the lobbies of the Y&BC were not designed that well compared to most WDW resorts. Even before BCV opened, the check in area seemed congested.

I like the idea of parking at BCV and strolling in to check in, get a printout of our dining reservations, etc. without venturing into the craziness of the BC lobby. The peace and quiet of the BCV public areas is one reason I love BCV so much.

We were there in August and I didn't mind the new BCV's check in situation except for the fact that because of the room design, it seemed extremely noisy to me. The CM beside the one checking us in talked loud naturally, she wasn't screaming or anything you could just tell she naturally had a strong voice. Now our CM had a naturally soft voice and I could barely understand what my CM was saying over the louder one beside us. To me, the CM's are to close to each other and there isn't much privacy, esp. when there is more than one guest checking in at the same time.

To me, the check in area just isn't large enough for checking in more than one guest at a time. Like I said, I didn't mind but still would prefer to check in over at the BC lobby.

Last year we had night at BWV before our cruise (and returned to BCV afterward). The checkin at the Boardwalk front desk was the fastest I have ever experienced at WDW (no line), whereas there always seems to be a line at BC (because of all those Beach Club guests hogging the line!), and it takes longer once you get to the front.

I'm glad to see any attempt to improve things, even if it's for the "wrong reason". :rotfl2:

I think it is kind of a nice addition. I just hope there aren't a million people checking in at the same time as us. With only two staff people there it might take a LONG time. I am also curious about guest services, do they have that there? Will we need to go into the lobby to access that? That is a little bit of a pain, cause we usually check in and then stop right over at guest services. Sometimes we even divide up. One can check in while the other get tickets/ADRs/other last minute things. We could still do that of course, it would just be more of a pain. Oh well. My overall impression is good. I think I will like it when we go in Oct!

DD just called. They checked in at the lobby in the villas. They wanted to purchase their park passes and were told to "have a seat and we'll take care of it for you" (which they did). I guess they don't want people standing at the desk making it look like there's a line? (just a guess!). Anyway, one of her friends wanted to purchase her pass with part cash, part credit card and they couldn't do it. So they ended up standing on line at the concierge in the lobby anyway. DD was able to get her park pass since she charged it to the room. Their room (a studio) was ready. She called from Beaches n Cream, which makes me think there was no line there, because when there's a line there, we usually go somewhere else to eat.

We just returned from WDW and we went to the BCV to check things out. The DVC desk is open 8-6 daily. One computer terminal and two staff.

We decided that we like the old check in.

The BC has really improved their check in and lobby. The check in area had several CMs waiting to serve Guests. Two Managers were on the Guest side of the counter asking if they could answer questions. There was a greeter, (not Art) at the door and two maid looking ladies standing behind the greeter. They also had a costumed character playing on the floor with several children.

All of the above was there to support BC Guests, not BCV Guests. :sad2:

So, do we HAVE to use the Villas check in desk from 8-6, or can we still check in via the BC lobby? I prefer the BC lobby, myself ....

Well, the greeters and CM playing with children would be available to BCV guests who walk through as well though. Our last stay or two, I was approached by a manager in the lobby as well so I think they're there to support all of us. :confused3

Aren't there 700 or so BC rooms compared to 200 + villas? It makes sense to me to have more CMs behind the counter at BC. In addition I would guess that there are more short stay guests at BC than BCV.

But I am surprised to read there were two CMs at BCV but only one terminal. I had read before two terminals but one printer which seems par for the course at WDW checkin from what I've observed.

I'm actually looking forward to trying BCV checkin.

I wonder if those who prefer to check in at the BC are still able to do so?

I am just reporting what we saw. When you enter the BC you turn left to check in at the BCV or right to check in at the BC. The Managers were in front of the BC check in desk and would not have contact with DVC members who turn left to go to the BCVs. The Character playing with the children on the floor is for anyone but one of the reasons that he is there is to keep the kids entertained while the adults check in. He is kind of far from the BCV check in area. We were told by a Manager that DVC members are directed to the BCV DVC desk between the hours of 8-6. On Tuesday there was on computer with a CM behind the desk. The other CM was in front of the desk talking to the people checking in as the computer CM processed the transaction.

I wasn't doubting what you saw at all. Just looking at some parts of it from a different point of view. The managers you saw may have spent all the time talking to BC guests checking in or perhaps roamed which is more what I experienced.

I agree that the CM playing games is probably a bigger help to BC guests checking in rather than BCV guests passing through. On the other hand if we still need to go to the main lobby for concierge help, the games could help BCV guests out too. Do you know if the BCV CMs served as lobby concierge too?

Trust me, I wasn't questioning your take on your experience. Who knows, I may not care for it either.:confused3

Oh, you do know you don't need to enter the BC to check into the BCV, right? I think I would feel a little put out if I walked all the way in only to be told to go to a different building.

I forgot to ask about concierge.

I like the BC lobby, I feel that it is part of the ambiance. I would rather have Disney use 4 feet of the BC check in counter for BCVs. I want the BC experience with the savings of the BCVs.

I wish they would have had the BCV check in area when I was checking in on July 31st! It would have avoided me being charged $538 for my room, even though I was staying on DVC points. The person checking me in said there was a problem with my ressie and in order to "fix" the problem, made me a nice new one! Which I later found out was charged to my credit card! Wouldn't have happened at a DVC only checkin area I bet! I think it is a nice thing, but I want Art moved over there, too!!! :)
