The DVC members only site has been down (at least I couldn't access it) the last few days so I couldn't check to see if the DVC backpack that has been mentioned here was the one that was for sale until tonight. It appears that it is not. The item that is mentioned on the DVC site is a "canvas travel bag."

So-- what's the DVC backpack? Can anyone describe one to us? Is that what they're giving new members now?

We just got our new membership materials in the mail yesterday and included was a 'canvas travel bag'

Its dark blue canvas with a pullstring top and a dark brown vinyl/pleather flap which folds over and buckles.

It has a zipper compartment along the bottom where I assume one could store wet items like bathing suits.

I'd describe it more like a large purse than a backpack.

I don't have it in front of me so I know this isn't the greatest description, but if you are really curious I could post a digitial picture this evening.

When I joined 3 months ago, they sent me what I would call a white, canvas tote bag. Just an open tote....no flap, no zippered compartments, no pull strings.

No pens for me either (sniff, sniff). And most of all.....no complaints. :)

Just got our 10year DVC celebration issue of Vacation Magic came yesterday. It has a picture of it in the letter. it is for $40, white glove tag is for $6, and and new guide book is for $20.

I thought the guidebook was supposed to be 15. I think I make do with my free one!

[Below info was from an e-mail received from MS on 11/7/01]
I, too, received nothing when I purchased an add-on...oh well

Members who purchased on September 24, 2001 and after are receiving the new Member Welcome Kit. If you purchased a master contract you will receive a backpack with the closing document box which includes all the paper work. This
is new.

If you purchase an add on on September 24, 2001 and after, you received a framed illustration of the Home Resort where they have purchased the add on. This is new.

When you purchased you received the canvas bags with the closing document papers.

At this time Disney Vacation Club Members are unable to purchase the Disney Vacation Club backpacks. If and when we decide to sell any Disney Vacation Club Merchandise, we will place the information on our web-site and in Vacation

We purchased the end of November

In our new member kit we received

1. A royal blue canvas travel bag/backpack. Like described above, it is canvas with a vinyl flap that covers a drawstring top. The top has the DVC logo pressed into it. The inside is lined and waterproof.

2. 2 black DVC pens

3. A "matted" (not framed) illustration of VWL. Its very nice and suitable for framing.

4. 2001-2002 Member guidebook

5. A Mickey hand bag tag. I think this was my wife's favorite give-away.

hope this helps!

my mistake---the free to member guidebooks are for sale for $15. I guess if we lose it we atleast can get a new one.

Wow-- new members today are getting some great loot! All I got was a canvas "briefcase" bag that isn't really all that useful. Oh well....

We received the same as AB's dad when we joined in Nov 2001. The "backpack" has already made one roundtrip airflight to and from Orlando.
