DVC availability

Is there any kind DVC owner who is willing to call and simply ask if there is any availability at? (resort; villa type; and dates) I want to rent points but can stay at POP instead if there is no room. Unfortunately the people I have dealt with so far want all sorts of info before they will even call to check if there is space. Once I know there is, I will forge ahead. If there isn't, that helps me too. If anyone would, I'd be eternally grateful...(imagine an LGM voice).

Even if we call ahead and there is availability...by the time the Owner calls you back and then calls to reserve, the availability may no longer be there. That is why the Owner needs your info, because during the course of coversation with Members services they have to be able to snag it for you then. Especially now that you are at the 7 month mark.

As an owner, I would also want the same before calling. Why not just give it a try?

Just an FYI about the availability board. That is nothing more than information that has been reported by members here on the DIS. So, if no one reports a sold out night, it would not be listed there.

It really is something that you can use to know what is NOT available, rather than what is. And even then, since things change constantly, there could be availability for nights listed as booked.

As PP mentioned, calling MS to find out availability would do no good unless the member calling was going to book right away. I have had rooms disappear while on the phone with MS in betwen cancelling my initial room and booking the new one, so knowing that there were rooms available today, would not guarantee that they would still be there when the owner you contact to rent from calls, even if it was just a short time later.

Honestly it changes by the minute, so calling would be a wasted effort. I might call and it be available, someone else might call the next minute and it not be, a third person might call an hour later and be available again.

Truly until you are ready to book it, calling is not going to help you at all.

This thread has been heavily edited as we do not allow "seeking rental" posts here on the DIS. Also, general questions are fine, but nothing that contains details such as Resort name, villa size, dates, etc. Just general questions.

OP - as you can see there truly is not much point anyway in asking a DVC member to call and check availability for you unless you have a member you are working with who will do this for you, and hold the reservation. Otherwise, the information will be of no use since it changes moment by moment. Also, we do not allow such open requests here on the boards.

Just to illustrate how availability can change at any moment... last week I called to modify our August reservation at BLT. There was one remaining standard view 1 BR for our dates. The CM was sweating bullets as she quickly cancelled our old ressie to use the points to book the new one; she was afraid of losing the room in the few seconds the transaction took. Luckily, she didn't.

If it helps--before I owned DVC, I had a really really good friend who owns it and she still used all of my information to check. Now it is highly likely she knew most of my info since she knew my phone number and where I lived and the specific travel dates I needed...

But I share that to say that I'm not surprised that a stranger would need some details to secure your room. Good luck!

To make your reservation, the member would need names and ages of all the guests. Their addresses. Their telephone numbers. If using Magical Express, the flight numbers and airline. If you wanted the dining plan, they would need a way to pay for it when it was added to the reservation, like your credit card number, expiration date and code.
