during my trip in August I got chatty with a seemingly knowledgeable
DVC CM who told me that after GFV (with a wink), they are going to build another tower at BLT where the south annex building to the CR is currently. The north building I guess is where the current BLT was built. I specifically said, "before Poly"? She said yes, according to her sources.
So if it's GFV and then BLT2 then Poly, Poly wouldn't be opening for another 8-10 years?
Anybody else heard anything about a 2nd phase to BLT? This CM seemed very aware.....of course who knows.
When it comes to DVC development, everything is in a constant state of flux. Until they break ground on a project, anything can change on a dime.
Six months ago the project on the fast track was a DVC at Fort Wilderness. Now that project has stalled.
Today it's the Grand Floridian, but even that has lost some steam. Construction walls went up and the spa closed 2 months ago. Physical construction was supposed to be under way by now. Disney even went through the painful process of dealing with couples who were going to have their weddings impacted by construction work near the Wedding Pavilion.
Now I'm hearing that construction at the GF may not start until January.
In years past there has been evidence of Disney evaluating resort projects near Blizzard Beach and the old STOLPort landing strip outside the MK resort area. A second Contemporary tower is also an obvious choice. And it would surprise no one if a Poly DVC eventually appears.
But the exact order of those projects is bound to change a dozen times...perhaps before lunchtime today.
The main issue is that DVD/DVC is pretty low in the food chain when it come to building on Disney property. They don't dictate when or where they will build...rather they have to gain permission to use any given site.
I agree that someday there will be a second tower at the Contemporary. However, about 5 years ago Disney invested millions of dollars to refurbish the 250 hotel rooms in the CR South Garden Wing. Those rooms would have to be demolished in order to make way for a new DVC tower. I'm not sure how anxious Disney might be to write-off that investment and proceed with construction on another DVC there.
All of these projects are possibilities and yes, it could play out exactly the way it was relayed to you. But at this point there really is nothing set in stone. Any number of factors could contribute to projects getting shuffled around, delayed, scrapped, etc.
As for the Poly, I've long thought that rebuilding the resort is the most logical path to take. If you look at what Disney has done with Aulani, the idea of building a new and improved Poly is very exciting. Only time will tell if Disney agrees.
