DVC at the Contemporary

DW and I have talked about adding on at the BW but I am kind of taking the wait and see because of the Contemporary rumors. It would be nice to walk into EPCOT for part of the vacation then walk into MK for the other. Anyone think this will happen?Is anyone else hanging back to see what happens or am I the only nut.

When I asked guide she said that Eagle Pines is next, after SSR is sold out. Then they will try to build on the mono-rail. She said they didn't know where on the mono-rail but that it would be a new resort hotel /dvc combo. She said it will be about 10 years from now. If all goes according to plans.

IF, they plan on selling out SSR, then EP then another resort, it will be more than 10 years. It should take 6-8 years minimun to sell out SSR, then another 8-10 for EP. Even assuming they time it and start the next one a couple of years before sell out, I'd think 13-14 years from now would be the earliest they could start another resort post EP, if they go by the idea posted here. I personally don't think it will ever happen but I'd love to be wrong.

EP is at the Golf course where Bonnet Creek dead ends into Vista Blvd. It's just outside the guard gate before you get to Ft Wilderness.

Yes, as long as the "Magic Kingdom Lovers" are also "bus lovers." I don't think it has access to Bay Lake.

I hope they do add a DVC onto the Contemporary. I would love the location. But more importantly, the Contemporary is one tired looking building and needs some serious renovations. Other than the monorail passing through it, it's a very dull and worn out building.

Perhaps the Convention center keeps it afloat. But for a deluxe it is surely lacking. I stayed there recently in the Tower Club room and was very disappointed. Unless it receives some major rehab in the future, I won't make the same mistake twice.

Just did an add-on at SSR. During the contract signings, we had to be told that WDW as rights to add monorail thru SSR resort. I think you might see that in the future with a stop at Downtown Disney/Westside

Scott don't count on it - first WDW would connect all their theme parks - more money for them - before they started connecting it to anything else.

DD stays busy enough without a monrail connection.

I see them connecting the AK to either the Studios (probably much closer) or Epcot (so the connection is easier to the MK) - before anyother monrail system is even started. Studios would probably get a monrail or HST before DD.

Of course we can all hope for the high speed trains connections....

I'm just glad that they didn't use the monorail rightaway as a selling point but instead told you after the sale.

I don't know about you, but the Contemporary Tower is a reminder of memories past. Just driving thru the gate and seeing that tall building reminds me of numerous vacations with my family, spending my honeymoon in the tower, experiening all my adult vacations with my own family gives me great pleasure. Watch out when the Contemporary comes up for sale. I will be the first to buy!

Also, they updated the rooms back in 1997 if I am not mistaken. When my mother and I traveled we stayed in the tower, the rooms had just been remodeled.

I agree with you on the memories. Whenever I think of MK I naturally think of the Contemporary. I love seeing the building from afar and riding the monorail as you approach. Great concept, having the monorail pass through it and all. My kids love it.

Unfortunately once inside I was very dissappointed. It seemed so ordinary. Like any hotel you'ld find at an airport (aside from the monorail of course). My room was the biggest letdown. We were in the tower club with a MK view. Absolutely loved the view but the room itself was quite plain and very worn looking. The bathroom being the worst. Very much in need of a make over. I guess I expected more from a concierge room. I commented that if this was a concierge room, I'ld hate to be in the normal tower or garden accomodations.

It seems that this hotel is the best candidate to remodel, renovate, or add on to.

I can't say enough about the location or the people though. The cast members were great.

My opinion doesn't mean a lot, being a DVC member for all of 2 months and having ZERO stays under my belt. Nevertheless, I would be SHOCKED if the next DVC property was not associated with an existing property. It only makes financial sense. If they added-on at AKL or Contemporary, they don't have to duplicate all of the infrastructure that is already in place (registration, pool, dining facilities, etc.)

In building SSR, at least the were able to make use of some of the Disney Institute facilities. Since the DI was going nowhere fast, and the Pop Century debacle proved they don't need another on-site resort, DVC was probably a logical move for that property.

But if I were a betting man, I'd put my money on the Contemporary or AKL before EP moves forward.

all WDW resorts are on a 5 year schedule - so the Contemporary due to the Shades of Green guest is past to for a refresher.... It should have happen in 2002.

I would really love this to be the next DVC resort - but hey I am happy with VWL.....

I have not heard too many complaints about the Tower - but yes the MK views were some of the worst we ever had - just glad we were there for one night - I tried the other side Bay Lake Tower Room a few years before and those rooms were much,much nicer....

mother despite having one of the worst rooms ever at WDW still loves the Contemporary....

I think we should know shortly - anyone know when the Shades of Green will be completed.....

The problem with contemporary/modern architecture is that, like clothing styles, they quickly become outdated. If you want a building that will remain 'contemporary', you need to build one that has many timeless attributes.

Well, maybe that should be 'themed after a time when architecture meant something'. Gimme cut stone, flying buttresses and gargoyles anyday over the 'function defines style' mentality.

The Contemporary always reminded me of those cheap plastic egg-like chairs we had in grade school...functional, but not pretty.

More likely the sudden availablity of the Disney Instutute property when that failed - with the infrastructure in place.

It would shock me to see DVC at the CR - I'd love to see it happen. But I would think the point cost (both the buy in cost and points per night) would be very high. It would really really shock me to see VAKL.

Both the Eagle Pines project and SSR looked like Disney has made the decision that maybe the OKW idea worked best after all. Both of the projects are very large. I think they get some complaints with people trying to get into BCV or VWL (both very small resorts) or even the larger BWV at the seven month window and being disappointed. I don't think they'd "buy" themselves that problem with the Contemporary or Animal Kingdom Lodge - where the problem would be even bigger. Those areas are prime real estate and I can't help thinking they can make more money off something other than the great deal we all get with DVC. But I could be wrong.

And of course Disney has the rights to run a monorail anywhere they please - they own the property and the monorail system. Doesn't mean they will do it.

Salespeople love the complaints - I won't have brought at BWV or VWL - if I could have gotten them without buying....

but I like to go at a very popular time early December - so it was either buy or always stay at oKW - now I love OKW - but sometimes it is fun to stay some place different....

that is what add-ons are for - so you will feel a need to buy more points....

yea - I can see if the Cont becomes part of DVC - it will be very expensive - of course before BCV was done - it was say about that resort too.... so one nevers knows.....
