DVC at Grand Floridian - update 12/9/11

I think $170 per point sounds reasonable. The resale market is a totally different thing now, with the new rules.

Right, so the gap between new and resale will probably be even larger.

Honestly, the new resale rules do not effect that much.

Wow.. if this was a hoax, somebody would've put a whole lot of work into it! Looks pretty solid to me!

Looks like a new DVC resort is in the works. After all, Aulani is just about complete, Disney needs to have something in works and DVC is still such a money maker for them

This would be interesting. The footprint of the building shown in the plans is roughly the size of BLT, but I can't imagine them putting a high-rise there, so I would have to think there would be fewer floors and fewer rooms. But unless they do build it tall, I don't think there would be any MK-view rooms.

I took the picture of the plans on the first post and superimposed it onto Google Earth. Here's what I came up with.

Then I angled the view to see what the view might be like toward MK.

$140-$170 a point seems to be a bad deal to me.

I love GF and I would love to stay there someday if it ever becomes part of DVC. However, I am thinking that adding on to SSR resale and getting MORE points for less money would be the way to go. Points per night at GF will be high too.

For me, I like to mix up my visits each year. I try a new one each time. I like them all just fine. So, if you are not picky or feel like you must secure GF each time you visit, I just can't justify that kind of price. I'd rather have more points at SSR than less at GF. :confused3

I have never had a hard time getting something other than my home resort at 7 month out. I usually get my first choice on my first call. I only had to use the wait list once...and that eventually came through too.

It is all about price. I am definitley interested in adding on points at GF but the price point will make the difference.

I think there's some confusion (at least in my mind) about the price for an potential VGF. When referring to DVC points, price can mean one of two things (generally); number of points per night needed for a stay, or the cost to buy points (either from Disney or resale). Some important points to consider:
  1. You do not have to buy VGF points to stay there. Your DVC points, no matter where or how you bought them, can be used for a stay at VGF
  2. While DVC may (will) raise the cost for points bought from them, that will apply to any of the resorts they are currently selling, possibly with some adjustment in the incentives they are offering by resort.
  3. So, combining 1 with 2, the real issue is what they will charge (in points) per night to stay there.
...and yes, there is that 11/7 home resort advantage that may be important to those that visit during the busy season, but that's not really a VGF specific issue.

See, I think the 11/7 be a huge issue for VGF, especially if the Villas are particularly gorgeous and/or include concierge service. The only other MK area resort with DVC is BLT, which largely gets mediocre reviews, other than the location. VGF might fill based on owners alone all year round.

What about the Villas at Wilderness Lodge, aren't they considered an MK resort?

If the rumors are true . . . Does having DVC at the Grand Floridian "de-value" BLT? There was such hoopla with BLT about having a DVC property on the monorail line and being so close to the MK to see the fireworks from your room. Boardwalk Villas is so much cheaper point-wise than Beach Club Villas. Would the same happen with BLT and VGF????

Personally, If I had to choose between a stay at BLT and VGF, I'd go VGF everytime. It is already a beautiful resort (that we've been wanting to stay at!) and it is the last stop on the resorts monorail line before the MK stop. :thumbsup2

:rolleyes1 Over the years, I've heard all the DVC rumors and most of them have come true (EX: AKV, BLT, Hawaii, etc ... ). Keeping my fingers crossed that this rumor becomes a reality too. ;)

I think the BLT has loads of selling points still. More then likely BLT will forever be the closest DVC resort the the MK! The walk from Door to door is most likely still faster then the one stop on the monorail.

Both resorts have there pros and cons that for sure.

We will have to wait and see what happens.

I'm a DVC member -does anyone else out there think that DVC is becoming too big? Will it hit the point where being a a part of the "club", just isn't special anymore?

There are already almost half a million members, so I'm not sure that it's all that exclusive as it is. I really don't care if it's special or not; I do it because I'm a Disney nut and this affords me great vacations in great accommodations. The way I look at is is, the more they expand, the more options I have. :)

I'm still holding off for DVC at the Poly!

Do you think there's room for one? I think they could either destroy the Spirit of Aloha building and build there, or they could convert one or more of the existing buildings.
