DVC at DL

If you go to GCH, there's not much more than the frame up at this point...

The usual beaten-path buzz here has been expectations that the new resort will sell out in five minutes. While I'm not so sure of that, because it will be so small (in terms of number of units) it will likely close out faster than what we've seen in the past with the large WDW properties.

And because of the small number of units, I strongly expect it (like HHI and WLV) will be a very tough property to get into at 7 months during prime seasons, which in the case of Disneyland is late spring through labor day and all holidays. Ergo, if SSR owners think they're going to spend the Fourth of July or Thanksgiving at "DVC Disneyland," they're setting themselves up for disappointment.

I'm going to the DVC reception at DLR next weekend, and although it looks like it's more geared towards Member Getaways, I originally heard they'd be showing off the models for GCV. I can't tell how much of anything they will be able to tell us about the new villas, but there is hope there will be more information available during the weekend.

I'm flying out there tomorrow afternoon. We want to be able to add-on points there ourselves, and so I thought I'd call and get the latest scoop instead of just showing up. I'd love to get some freebie while there, but the rep said that there was nothing to see (or receive :sad2: ). I just got off the phone with a DL DVC rep, her name was Gerry, at least that's what I heard her say...anyway, she told me that the models won't be ready until later this summer - they won't be ready for the Member Event in a couple of weeks, as they are waiting on the architect's sign off.

While I cannot verify the validity of any of these details, here's what she told me about the actual sales and opening of the villas:

  • They are looking to have it open in Fall 2009, possibly October, but probably November
  • CA timeshare sales laws are different than in FL, and apparently they have to receive the Certificate of Occupancy before they can start sales. So if that's true, then construction has to be considerably complete before they can start selling.
  • Points charts are not ready yet, but "should" be finalized around the end of this year.
  • Just make sure that your name is on the list with your own rep in order to be notified as soon as they are ready to open up sales to members (or course after those Founding Members that are able to purchase first).

I'm at least looking forward to seeing how much vertical progress they've made since my last visit in Feb. I've seen photos of the web - but it sure will be nice to see for myself.

I spoke with my guide yesterday (DL located) and she said they would be doing group tours of the models. It'll be interesting to see what ends up happening. :rolleyes1 I don't quite understand why they can't all have the same, correct information?

She also said the event should be lots of fun, and there's supposed to be some terrific incentives. Of couse I couldn't get registered for the member reception that I needed - all sold out! We just got completely into the MS system yesterday and I didn't think I could register before then - according to the form I filled out I now see it wouldn't have been a problem at all. :sad2: Thought I could make Friday work, but doesn't look like it will. My only hope now is that some people cancel for Sunday or Monday night. It does sound like the Expo will be mostly geared to non-disney vacations for members.

Yep - I WISH they could get their stories straight. I'm going to ask more of the reps at the kiosks Sun and Mon while on-site to see how many "different" stories I get. :rotfl:

We live here in SD and go to DL all the time using our points. We are hoping that even though they will have the DVC rooms that they will still leave availability in the DCH as they have now.

It would stink to loose all that they offer in rooms at this time when they will be adding on such a small amount of DVC rooms. People like my that live close will loose out unless we purchase more points and dont want to do that since we have 400 and will buy more for the Hawaii DVC.

WE are annual pass holder members so can get rooms cheep if have no other way to get in but kind of silly to have to pay twice dont ya think.

I would guess, and it's just a guess, they would make it work like Florida: You'll still be able to use your points at at least the DLH, although maybe not at PPH if it's not economical to use points over cash. Then GCH would not be an option, like at Wilderness or AKL, because DVC has an interest there already.

If that is the case, I think it will be a little disappointing to lose some of the other types of rooms, like the DTD views and such. It would seem where the villas will be located there may still be some DCA rooms to be had though.

So what exactly will they be showing next weekend, and what incentives can they offer? Will they be enticing us with properties already for sale?

I'm hoping that they will still keep the GCH rooms as they do know and just keep the points higher if you dont own. Own and you get the best bang for your bucks.....dont and you will have to use more points because those rooms are not DVC rooms.

My guess is that you may not be able to book non DVC GC rooms, but you should be able to book DLR and PP rooms, similar to the other non DVC resorts at WDW. Would be nice if they'd allow us to book GC rooms too, since the DVC section will be small.

Ok - so I was in DL today, and spoke with 5 different reps - 1 at the GCH, 1 in DTD, and 3 inside DL - and every single one said something different when I asked about the models. It's just so amazing!

  • One said that the models are ready, they just haven't taken the construction walls down yet...
  • another said they are about 1/2 way finished, probably not done til the end of summer...
  • still another one said that they're done with construciton , but the furniture hasn't arrived yet...
  • another one said that the models should be open by the 4th of July...
  • and the last one said that she really had no idea since the folks in charge don't share much information with them until something is ready to be announced officially - but she was just as anxious as me to see 'em.
Fascinating, really. I'll be back there tomorrow, and will ask again. It'll be interesting what variety of answers I get then... :rolleyes1

I don't have any real info when the models will open, but I can tell you that they passed their final inspection on 5/12 (I got this online, at the Anaheim Planning Department permit status website). So, construction is definitely complete, but whether they have the furniture & all is a whole different question.

where are the kiosks & model set up @ DL?

hoping to sneak a peek end of June/early July;)

Stopher, thank you SO much for doing this. I am watcing the VGC (or whatever the new acronym will be) very closely and am not a DVC member yet. I really appreciate your taking the time to not only do the asking but also to report back. :)

I really appreciate everyone's willingness to pool information.

I spoke to my guide yesterday and he said to expect the point chart to be similar to existing charts BUT to expect a much higher per point purchase price than before....

My guess is somewhere in the $120.00 to $125.00 per point range-anyone else want to speculate?

That's pretty high...think they will offer a lower price being the way the economy is. Also being they are the first in DL. But I have been known to be wrong before:rolleyes1 :lmao: That is too high for my blood and Dh makes an income in the middle 6 figures. Think I will wait and get some more in the Hawaii DVC...that would be worth more to me there than Anaheim Ca.

And I live in SanDiego. I still am in hopes that they will still keep DVC rooms as they do now with the higher points to stay there. We use most of our points there anyway. It is handy to have DC so close so we dont have to go to WDW every year to use them or to have to bank them. WE would get a lot of use out of our points in Hawaii :thumbsup2

Gee wonder how high those points will be in Hawaii...eek:scared:
