DVC at Contemporary

DH called our guide today. Asked about CR and she asked if he would like to be added to the "Unofficial" list to notify if CR would be official. :goodvibes Thought that was odd since the guides usually say that they don't know anything about CR. Unless it's some type of reverse psychology. Also discussed Hawaii with him as well.

I need to call my guide! :cool1:

Each guide can maintain their own lists of members who are interested in various new resorts - official or not. My guide has listed me as one of the people to call. They are sales people, and it would make sense for them to do this. This doesn't, in any way, confirm CRV.

I agree - been on my guide wait list for CRV for around 5 years.

When we joined, DS was in Kindergarten, and absolutely loved the Magic Kingdom. He's now a teenager (how did that happen) and more into the rides at MGM and Epcot. At this stage, a MK resort doesn't hold the appeal for us that it once did.

believe he will love MK again - might take him going to college or getting a girl friend who loves MK - but believe me he will love it again.

besides you need to buy what you like not the kids.

I would buy there as well, do you think calling and getting on a list actually would push it towards DVC from suites though? Certainly they know already right?

they know - and have known.

the Polyn gets more DVC member to stay there - but the CR definitely has it share.

WL is not a MK resort on the monrail.

CR is.

so it is still on my wish list.

disney will do what is the best interest of disney at the time.

so far that has been DVC resorts. So it really does look good for us.

totally agree.

we bought at AK because we love the animals and the atmosphere - but if CVR turns out to be true we may very well purchase some points there too.

we have been looking at getting about 100 more points so that would be a nice place to add on.

Sorry, maybe I've given you the wrong impression. We, both my husband and myself, are not as excited about the Magic Kingdom anymore either. Of all the parks, it has become our least favorite. We've stayed at the Contemporary as well. It was OK, nothing more. We loved the Poly, but that had nothing to do with the monorail or the location. It's just an awesome hotel with a terrific theme.

To each his own. I think the plans for this C-shaped thingie are just hideous. Maybe the real thing will look better, but it's hard to see how at this point. All that being said, I'm sure if they do put a DVC in it, it will sell very well.

Don't know why that link posted the way it did but I found recent pics at another site and I think I can't post the link here?

With regard to the term "Suites", does anyone know what these would look like?

I'm wondering if they would be constructed to the same specifications as DVC villas?

If the new construction turns out to be mixed use or even all cash rooms, a rebalance of cash vs. DVC would be much simpler if the rooms were identical and could be easily converted - unlike AKL which required extensive remodeling to turn cash rooms into DVC (though I understand those rooms were originaly built without any conversion in mind).

Just curious if anyone has any insight into what type of a balance they might try to strike between cash "suites" and DVC?

Just some thoughts as to whether or not the CR being DVC...

Many posters have suggested that this will be mixed use - along the same lines as AKV and the newly announced GVC and Hawaii resorts. My thought is that why would they make this new structure mixed use at all. CR already has the tower and another wing which would make it mixed use. Additionally, Disney allocates to CRO for these villas also.

I also believe that this DVC (if it is a DVC), will be extremely popular in not only in the purchase phase but also in current members wanting to book at the 7 month window.

If Disney takes note of the popularity of BCV and BWV and the difficulty in their current members to be able to book at the 7 month window, they would look to avoid this situation with CRV.

But then again, I might be living in a fantasy world. :rolleyes1

My thoughts are that if it is indeed a mixed use building, the non-DVC rooms will not be your standard room. Disney resorts and the regular CR have enough of those. If you exclude the DVC rooms, there is a lack of affordable lodging for larger families and/or groups. at Disney. The family suites at the All-Stars don't really fit the medium to high budget vacationer and are extremely small with 6 people. I can see rooms that sleep more than 4 or 5, instead they will sleep at least 6. I don't see these rooms having kitchens, but will most likely have the small refrigerator and microwave. Having a room to sleep 6 was a factor in our buying DVC and I can see Disney going this mixed use route with the new CR building. Again, this is only my opinion, but I would not be surprised to see about one-third of the building to be non-DVC. Then, people who stay in those non-DVC rooms, may want to buy into the DVC at CR.

What about the simple fact that the contemporary has a buildings worth of rooms that are now no longer there and they might feel the need to rebuild them. This was one of the highest year round occupancies of any hotel.

The story I've heard repeated...from multiple sources...is that the new structure was on-track to be DVC until the Contemporary refurb drove demand thru the roof. DVC does have a very important place in the Disney landscape, but cash rooms are more profitable assuming you can keep them filled with guests.

Factor in the popularity of the All star suites (guests wanting larger accommodations), work permits that actually use the phrase "Contemporary Suites", and the prime location adjacent to the MK. Suddenly it doesn't seem quite so far-fetched that Disney may try to keep these rooms for cash guests.

Yes, people can book DVC rooms via CRO. The problem is that they can also rent DVC points for pennies on the dollar and get the same room. If Disney kept DVC completely out of the CR, anyone wanting to stay there wouldn't have the option of turning to third-party renters. Of course, the volume of guests willing to pay $500-600 per night (during low seasons) for MK-view suites remains to be seen.

It probably will be DVC, but to this point I've yet to see a rock-solid argument either way that takes all factors into account. Of course, I didn't think Disney would spend over $100 million on land alone to build in Hawaii, so what do I know. :cool2:

So, why do I keep reading tj's stuff when even he wonders if he know anything????

Must be his witty way of saying he doesn't know anything, and the fact that some times he does! ...... And he writes well!! Well, time to go read your website again, tj!
