Unless I have missed this topic before, does anyone use DVC as a snowbird getaway for an extended period, perhaps as much as 2 or 3 months?
This is probably a question for empty-nesters who are retired or semi retired.
Anyone?

The one week we spent at OKW a couple of years ago, I asked the CM at the front desk this very question and she said they did have a gentleman who came down and stayed from the middle of January through the first week in March. I think there is a limit to the amount of points one can own - I think it's 2000. I never did the math or worked the points charts to so how much time this would buy a couple - but it would be wonderful wouldn't it?

Several years ago, I read that you can't stay more than 30 consecutive days at a DVC because of Florida’s residency law. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I beleive you can't own more than 2000pts at any one resort, and a DVC max of 5000pts. Now if this woud be enough to rent for 2-3 months I haven't taken the time to figure that out!

Just another point of reference here; a week in a studio at OKW for January and early February is 80 points. If you stayed for 6 weeks it would require 480 points. Again, that's just for a studio.

For a one-bedroom, its double that or 960 points.

This is kind of find to figure out -if my calculations are correct...A one bedroom at OKW from Jan 1 - April 30 2008 is 3272 points. If anyone wants to double check me - please do!

I was expecting that over $372,200 and nearly $15,000 annual maintance fees (and rising) would compare poorly to fractional ownership, but it's in the ballpark. Just another option for those who have more time and money than timeshares they own.

Actually it's 3606 this year. It depends on when the days fall including Easter. 2009 the total for a one bedroom is 3572.

Switch to a studio and it'll cost you 1801 and 1784 respectively.

Your dues would cost you $16,443.36 to $8145.04. Kinda pricey for 4 months living.
