DVC AP for long-time live in partner?

In most states, what you brought with you INTO the marriage is often yours to take when you leave. So if OP had the DVC before she was married, even common law married, then there shouldn't be any way that an X could walk with half. Of course, if they were paying it off with marital money, paying dues with 'marital money' then that might cloud the issue.

Not to walk into your personal life, but obviously after 14 years, you guys have figured out what you are doing re contributions to the 'coupledom', who pays for what etc. a funny askide: X bought a jeep in 1977. We were afianced in '78 and married in 79 and from the day of living together, commingled funds. X had a loan on the jeep. So we not only paid all expenses of jeep (many) throughout the years, but also most of the mortgage. And we added, once married, a plow which is worth more than the jeep. Under very suspicious circumstances, the jeep 'disappeared' from my driveway. I needed it to plow snow. Insurance claim gives most of the value to the plow. X says that the 'car' was his because...he bought it before we were married.

It pays to watch out for these things. I never thought I'd end up divorced, but it is really ugly business. :badpc: Just be careful.
