First time post, but I've been lurking for a few years. So please be kind.

Just called MS to find out renewal rates for the annual pass. We currently have the Premium we got with that great deal last year, and this is our first experience with an annual pass, of any kind, ever. The one we have expires in late October and we are planning a trip in early 2014.

When I asked about renewal prices for the Annual pass I mentioned that I have the Premium but never used the water parks so was just interested in renewing with the regular annual pass. I was told this could not be done????
That I can only get renewal prices for the Premium and would have to pay for the non-renewal DVC prices for the Regular. Anyone else able to confirm that this is the case?

For anyone interested, here are the prices I was quoted:

DVC Premium Annual Pass (Renewal Rate) = $526.11
DVC Annual Pass (Non-Renewal Rate) = $494.16

I asked what the renewal rate for the regular pass was if I did currently have the Regular and was told:
DVC Annual Pass (Renewal Rate) = $419.61

Hope you all have some good news that what I was asking is in fact allowed...

TIA.

No good news.
You can't renew what you didn't have.
You had a PAP.
You did not have regular Annual Pass.
If that is what you want, you have to buy it new.
Might as well just wait and buy it when you go in early 2014.
Not likely to have another price increase for another 6 months or more.
Or wait until the boards talk about rumor of another increase, and buy then.

As long as you renew your pass within 30 days of expiration (either + or -), you can do what you want to do - get a DVC "regular" annual pass (even though you have a DVC PAP right now) and pay DVC AP renewal rate.

MS gave you incorrect information.

But since you aren't going again until 2014, are you sure it wouldn't make more sense to buy a new AP when your 2014 trip begins?

For more info on APs & PAPs, read the Sticky Thread on Tickets written by Cheshire Figment over on the Theme Parks Board. CF is a CM with extensive experience in ticketing and Guest Relations.

Post #15G in that thread says "To renew any sort of Annual Pass it must be done within 30 days of either side of the expiration date. Note that upgrading or downgrading of any annual product may be done at the special renewal rate".

I've had an AP for quite a few years, and several years ago I did just what you want to do. I had a PAP, and renewed it for a regular AP at the regular AP renewal price.

Yes, Carol's info already says this, but Cheshire Figment has said many times you can downgrade your pass and still get renewal pricing.

Depending on when you plan to travel again I would second the idea of just buying a new AP when you go in 2014. It would then extend to that date in 2015 where your renewal would only be good until Oct 2014. I usually look at all the ways to do this when it comes to our APs and depending on future travel plans have done it both ways. Since we now qualify for the Florida rates it won't be such a big decision anymore as we will either get the weekday or seasonal APs. My DVC PAP expires 10/4 so don't know what will happen if I decide to get the Florida seasonal one then. I haven't checked to see if they even have a renewal amount for those.

When upgrading to the PAP I asked about 5 times about renewing back to the regular AP at the AP renewal rate because I knew I didn't want to keep the PAP unless they offered the great deal again. MS assured me this would not be a problem.
