Questions about a DVC annual pass....

My parents are DVC members:) I currently reside with them, therefore I qualify to get the DVC Annual Pass Discount.

Now...I have a trip planned in May with friends, not my folks who are the DVC Members. We are staying at Pop and will have the 8-Day Park Hopper Passes.

I want to know if I can take that 8-day hopper pass go to Guest Relations and apply the value of that MYW pass to a new DVC Annual Pass with the $100 Discount. I will have my mother's DVC Membership card with me along with photo ID with address, but my mother will not be with me at the time.

Can this be done?

If not...can I have my mother pre-purchase the DVC Annual Pass for me and have a voucher sent to the house before my trip. Then once down in DIsney go to Guest Relations and have the MYW 8 day hopper pass value applied to the DVC Annual Pass Voucher and get a credit on my credit card or even cash.

Does anyone have experience with any of this?

This one could be tricky. My mother gets the discount because we live in the same house. But both of us have to show our drivers licenses with the same address and my DVC member card for her to get the discount. I don't know how it works if you go with the voucher but not all parties ID's. We've always purchased or renewed hers in person. They will not credit the difference back to you after the fact. You can apply the value of the MYW ticket to the purchase or renewal of a pass but it has to be done in person. Maybe your parents can call MS to ask for advice.

I knew this would be tricky, was just hoping someone would have experienced a similiar situation and I could learn from their experience.

GUess just have to wait for Member Services to open up again.

If the cast member follows the proverbial letter of the law, you wouldn't be able to get the discounted AP.

The member is supposed to be present to show the ID card and a driver's license. Eligible relatives living in the same residence would then provide their own photo ID to prove that they live in the same household.

Without your mother present to show photo ID, all you really have is a blue DVC member ID card that's in a name other than your own.

Pre-purchasing the voucher doesn't help. Members can puchase a number of vouchers per year (I think it's capped at 8, but even that may not be enforced.) But redeeming those vouchers still requires the same proof of eligibility described above. Just because you are holding a voucher doesn't mean you fall into the class of eligible members and relatives. Technically speaking, the voucher could have been purchased by a neighbor, friend or co-worker...none of which would make you eligible to actually redeem it.

Actually, the AP can be purchased ahead of time with the discount. We did this for our son who was able to pick up his renewal AP at will call (too close to time of trip to have it mailed). Of course, he needed his id which had the same address as ours. I just called MS to arrange this.

But for the OP, I doubt you would be able to get credit back for the 8 day pass. I would ask your parents to call MS and ask. Or go to the Theme Park board and ask. There's a poster there called GoldenOldie who is a real expert on admission media.

The last time I was in my disney store (in Chicago) I purchased my own annual pass there. They give you an "Exchange" pass - which you will turn in at disney to get the real one.

They told me at the store - that if someone didn't know what they were doing at the store and couldnt get you your "discounted pass"... that they could Refund you your money at Disney itself when you arrived to turn in your exchanged pass and get your annuall pass.

The Best advice is - Just call the disney store and check it out.
If they say no - Call the main disney #407-W-DISNEY and check with them.

Personally I'd much rather call MS tollfree and buy through them. It is easily worth the $3 shipping fee to avoid driving to a mall or whatever.

Of course, that still doesn't solve the problem of the 8 day pass. Again, I'd call MS who can check with the ticket office if necessary. Or ask GoldenOldie.;)

Thanks for all the tid bits.

A few years ago I had my mother purchase the DVC AP with discount for me. I received the voucher and was able to pick up the AP with my mother not present without a problem...so I know that can be done.

Now I still just have to find out if my original questions can be figured out.
