DVC annual pass question

My DMIL bought a 7 day non-expiring ticket for our son. It was such a wonderful surprise! We had planned on buying him a DVC annual pass since we will be going again within the year. Can we upgrade the 7 day tix to a DVC annual pass, or can we not "cash in" on the DVC discount now?

Thanks for any info!

Yes, as long as the hopper is new, not use, you can use it towards the AP with a DVC discount. You'll need to do that in person at guest services.

You can upgrade the ticket anytime within 14 days of its first use. So you don't necessarily need to do it first thing when you get there. Just make sure you do it before you leave. If you decide to do the update after you've been using the ticket, the anniversary for the AP will be back-dated to the date you first used the MYW ticket.

You must do the upgrade at the Guest Services window at one of the parks or at Downtown Disney. (Don't stand in line at the regular ticket windows, they don't do the DVC passes. The resort concierges can't do it either.)

Don't forget that whenever you're buying a DVC AP, you need to have your DVC membership card and a photo ID.

We were just there last month, and traded in what was left on our 10-day hoppers (no exp) for DVC passes. Here's the cool part, though.... We had purchased the hoppers in February '07, so the expiration of the passes should have been for February '08 - one year from purchase date. But, we explained that the reason we were upgrading was to have park entry for our trip in July. So, the CM changed the expiration to August!?! In a sense, we got five months free, just for asking!! :cool1: So - never be afraid to ask for what you need, because you just might get it. Hey - some CMs still care about the magic, I guess.

That is great that they extended your expire date! I ordered our other kid's passes on the DVC member site, and had them "will call". We will pick up the will call passes, and upgrade the hopper that our DMIL purchased. Last time we picked up will call tickets, we picked them up at guest services at MK. I noticed on the will call receipt that it states to pick up the tickets at ticket sales at AK, Epcot and Disney Studios, but for MK, it says to go to ticket sales at Ticket and Transportation.

Can I still just go to guest services by the entrance of MK to pick up (and upgrade) our tickets? I would rather not have to go over to Ticket and Trans to get our tickets.......
