DVC Annual Pass gurus, please help!

Just to be sure I understand . . .

To figure out the amount you'll be charged for the upgrade, you take the full gate price of the MYW ticket, divide by the total number of days on the ticket, subtract the one day that was used (to get the value left on the ticket) . . . and then subtract that number from the gate price of the annual pass (less the DVC discount). The difference is the amount you would pay.

Correct?

No that is not correct. You subtract the FULL gate price of the ticket that you use. Your AP will be dated to the date you first used the ticket. There is no prorating of the used ticket.

So if you were using a 6 day PH pass to buy an adult AP here would be you scenario (all prices include tax):

DVC AP = $392.99
minus
6 day PH (gate price) = $292.88
total you will have to pay when upgrading = $100.11

You savings is based on the $292.88 gate price of your original ticket minus what you actually paid for it.

If anyone is planning on doing this to save some money, please remember that you have to use the ticket at least once in order to see any savings!

Aha! Thanks for the explanation, HayGan. :flower3: I'm so glad I asked.

I did this in August for 3 people in our party and had absolutely no problems at all! I will be doing it again next week for DS#2's AP.

In order to avoid any problems like CarolA had. Do your math ahead of time. Know what your new total should be (DVC AP price minus gate price of your ticket). Review your pass before you leave the window.

There is no way Disney knows what price you paid for your ticket! They know what UT or whoever paid for it. If you do not use it first, then you will only get credit for what the reseller paid for it - not even what you paid for it.

Bumping this back up! How did you make out? Were you able to do it? Also, in a WORST CASE SCENARIO situation if you weren't able to get full gate price for the discounted ticket you bought, you would then just end up spending the same amount of money as if you had bought it through DVC/Disney in the 1st place right, you wouldn't be denied upgrading at all would you?:confused3I hope that made sense:thumbsup2
