DVC Annual Pass Discount going away?

Okay...I have not read the entire thread, but I am reading this and first thinking, too bad...that is a nice discount to have.

And then I am thinking of conversation with DH..."Honey, I have to go to Disney a few more times now to get my use out of the pass!!!"

In all seriousness though, it certainly would be disappointing and if they did this, I think what we would end up doing is the same thing we did before DVC members...buy an annual pass, plan trips to sequence for use during that year and then not start another one until some time later...not quite the same savings...but it would offset a bit.

Until a couple of years ago, DVC used to get free valet parking. Overnight without notice, the perk was gone. Members who had valet parked thinking that it was free was told that they had to pay. Some paid some didn't.

DVC responded that the perk was provided by the valet contractor and that DVC had no control over what the contractor did.

We used free valet parking to visit/dine/shop at wdw resorts. I usually spent $50 to $150 tipping the valet drivers and bell service during the length of our vacations. Once they stopped the perk, I slowed down visiting other resorts and stopped using bell services saving a lot money.

If Disney takes away the AP perk, we'll continue to use DVC but in a different way. We'll spend the majority of time offsite visiting surrounding Orlando attractions. I'll use the Disney transportation system (boats,monorails,etc) to get arround and visit the non park sites. I remember Richyams calling the discounted annual passes " golden handcuffs" . He was spot on....once you invest in the discounted passes, its hard to spend money outside of disney.

It will be interesting to hear if anything comes out about this at the annual meeting this week (Thursday?). I think Q & A is limited to budget items now.

This would be a crushing blow to DVC, IMHO, and many would sell, including us. If you have enough points to make multiple trips per year, it is highly likely that you put yourself in this situation because of the APs.

I know no perk is ever promised, but this would be a deal breaker to us. 4 days and only one park all day? You gotta be kidding me! Ain't no way. Not us.

Yep been on the fence about selling and this would be the tipping point. just another example of their lately Un Magical Disney at least for me. I just made my ressies for next Oct/Nov at 11 month window and I was not even happy about doing it...or looking forward to going.

If you choose to upgrade the special $199 4-Day ticket, you will get a credit equal to what you paid for the ticket. So no savings.

The savings is in the original offer, not the upgrade. So therefore you save $$$ by purchasing that 4 park ticket, then simply add on the cost for the upgrade. Its not like when you buy from U.T. then upgrade. $199 is a good price,correct?

When you upgrade, you'd get the $199 price applied to the annual pass. So, you don't save anything on the annual pass if you upgrade. Whether you buy this pass and upgrade or you just buy the annual pass outright, you're out the same exact amount of money.

Yes, $199 is a good price if this ticket meets your needs, but it's not a normal ticket.

We just booked our dvc points for next year and we said we were going to get the AP. No mention of not getting the discount at all.

Just my $0.02, but I'm sure it's been said before. I think it's in Disney's best interest to continue the AP discount, because I know ticket prices generate income, but I would suspect that they generate more from food, extras, and merchandise. I would bet AP discount increases the number of visits per year for an average member, which also increases the money spent on food, extras, and merchandise. All I would bet that a dvc member is willing to buy more points to come more often. I don't see disney losing at all with an AP discount, so why would they discontinue. The only disadvantage I see is that now the parks are more crowded. I couldn't quantify the AP discount effect to crowds, but I'm certain it doesn't help.

2. I click on the Annual Passes link

3. I get an error, "There are no products available online for the type of tickets you requested."
There is a Browse Available Tickets drop down menu.
I select the Annual Passes drop down menu option.

4. I scroll down to the Theme Park Annual Pass and click on the link for
View Discounted Pricing for:
Disney Vacation Club Members

From there I get a blank page.

I wonder if I am missing a step or if it is my computer (or is it me? ). Or, this thread makes me wonder if Disney has already made the ordering online option INOP.

Once you get to the Annual Pass page, there is a link for Florida Residents and DVC Members. I selected DVC Members and got through with no problem. I was surprised there was no mailing fee if you wanted the actual voucher. So I selected for it to be mailed, it came in about 6 days.

Maybe, but they made money when your contract was first sold.

The owner of your contract will still use their DVC points.

The owner of your contract will still spend some money at Disney.

DVC is such a small piece of Disney's business, they aren't overly concerned with keeping members happy.

That link worked for me. Thx. The next problem is it wants me assign a pass to a guest. I wasn't prepared to do that right now as I was hoping to get a voucher and add it to the appropriate guest in the future--maybe that isn't possible anymore?

You can reassign it in the future. My MDE has my AP voucher and a link to reassign it.
