This rumour tweeted by Stitch Kingdom is there any credibility to it?

Even if so, it doesn't have to be a bad thing. Perhaps closing this door leads to our being classified as "Florida Resident" for future AP purchases/renewals?

This would be a crushing blow to DVC, IMHO, and many would sell, including us. If you have enough points to make multiple trips per year, it is highly likely that you put yourself in this situation because of the APs.

I know no perk is ever promised, but this would be a deal breaker to us. 4 days and only one park all day? You gotta be kidding me! Ain't no way. Not us.

This thread is a reminder that Disney/DVC can change almost everything about the DVC at their discretion.

Their pattern is to replace one perk with another to reduce the negative feelings. Take away the AP, provide discounted tickets. On the DDP, take away the appetizer, give you a refillable mug.

The Premium AP and discounted ticket perk may have been a test to see member reaction.

Who knows, the only thing we know for sure is that some how the changes benefit Disney.

I agree completely

DVC isn't that far from the other notable attractions. Stay in your timeshare - spend your money on other attractions if Disney is too expensive. Orlando area is full of them.

Some buy the no expire tickets and go to the parks less often anyway.

On my last year's two week visit I had the PAP and went to the parks 4-5 times. By that point I wasn't interested anymore. I have a lot of no expire tickets, so I'll only buy if the per visit price is fairly low, such as with the PAP, which also gave multiple trips as you stated.

Would be spending less time in parks and more time at the resort, pool or other attractions in Orlando.

Unlikely.

The current DVC price for AP's and PAP's is the same as Florida resident. When the discount was increased from $100 to $149, it matched Florida resident. Of course, that doesn't extend to other Florida resident passes.

Stitch Kingdom retweeted the rumor that was tweeted by the operator of DVCCentral.com. She also claims that the 4-day/4-park special ticket will be the only admission with a DVC discount. She says it's 90% certain. I'd take it (and any other rumors) with a grain of salt.

The 4 day/4 park ticket is worthless to me. I always park hop plus always stay 6 or 7 days. I can't imagine it fits a lot of members.

I'll take it one step further. I wouldn't give a hundred bucks a piece for them under the current restrictions (1 major gate/day) for exactly the same reasons you said. What am I going to do? Buy two of them for a week trip? Idiots. They sell DVC supposedly to get us into the parks to spend money and then the parks division decides its too expensive to discount APs for us and takes them away (in theory). Absolute rocket scientists!

Sell you DVC to draw you into the parks and not give you an affordable way to come and spend often. DVC sales will PLUMMET. Mark my words.

Anybody got a track record for these clowns? I'm finding this harder and harder to believe. I have some pretty good sources and the ones I've talked to in the last hour think this is as preposterous as I do.

This ain't passing the sniff test. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!

I'm pretty sure I've read here and other places that current FL timeshare laws prohibit TS owners from allowing owners resident status.

I don't agree, go ahead and sell, someone will buy your contract. Direct buyers have a hard enough time understanding what they bought and park admission probably isn't even considered.

Direct existing owner buyers will still buy especially new resorts.

Disney won't change the perks unless there is money in it for them or they lose the availability to work a deal with other Disney business units.

i think it's disney's rule, not FL's.

but i think it is in the DVC paperwork that ownership doesn't qualify you for resident status. i would doubt that would change.

if i'm not going to disney, i'm not interested in paying a premium to stay onsite at wdw...i can stay at other timeshares in orlando for a fraction of the price of DVC.

i doubt DVC sales will plummet but i'm certain that many current owners will reevaluate whether their ownership is worth it.

The context was specific to AP purchases. As the DVC AP and PAP rates are already matched to FL Resident rates, perhaps the next move is simply break down that barrier in their software and merge the definitions of "Florida Resident" and "DVC owner" for Pass purchases. That would give us, as DVC members, additional options such as the "Epcot after 4P" pass. It might also open the door for paying for the passes over time (monthly payments).

FWIW, I currently hold both the DVC WDW PAP and a Disneyland SoCal AP. (The SoCal AP was a better deal for us than the DVC DLR AP discount.) If the FL Resident WDW Seasonal Pass were offered to DVC owners it would be a good fit for our travel patterns! (But then again, I'd be really thrilled with the Epcot-after-4 pass!)

Long stays (or frequent) would not be feasible. Maybe they don't want people to stay long- less money spent on stuff. More turnover=more souvenirs, etc. maybe.

I wouldn't mind if it goes away. In the 5 years I've owned DVC I've never bought an AP. Why not? Because my home is at GCV and I live in Hawaii. We never go to WDW so that "perk" does us no good. How about offering a perk that benefits all DVC owners, including those that don't go to WDW?
