DVC and packages

I just received the dream DVC book and it is awesome. My husband and I are trying to see if we can even afford one. I would love to know how other people are affording it, any suggestions or tips would be helpful because it is very overwhelming looking at it all.
We also wondered if you participted in the DVC if you could still participate in the special package promotions such as free dining, etc. I look forward to hearing from you all. Have a great disney day

I am so so sad DH and I desperately wanted to go back to WDW this year after are wonderful trip last year. But we are trying to get pregnant with our first and I couln't risk going to WDW and not being able to ride the Tower of Terror. LOL

So far, at least, you cannot take advantage of Disney's FREE dining plan and utilize points at a DVC resort. This Sept, my DH, DS and I are going - not as DVC members- and paying for a "pkg" at POR so we can try out the FREE dining plan. The neat thing is that (because we have annual passes and don't need park tix) they are selling us each a one day one park passes and that qualifies us for the FREE dining. Those are passes I can use later or give away.
As for being at Disney while you're pregnant - you're right, you wouldn't be able to ride some of your favorites. BUT you can still go all the way through the queue and take advantage of the "story" and then bail out at the exit where they actually board the ride. I did this one year, and although it made me crazy to not be able to ride the rides, it gave me some satisfaction to at least be able to experience the story of the ride. Good luck!

You cannot use points for the free promotions. You may be able to pay cash thru CRO to stay at a DVC resort and get the free promotion. But it's gonna cost you waaaay more to do that.
