Just left OKW. Was happy the the cm in the store asked if I was a dvc members.
I said yes however I did not have my card.since I was at pool and was using band to pay for things.
first of all I have to say it was nice of her to ask if I qualified for any discounts.
my experience had been that simply saying I was a member was enough and rarely was asked fora card.
Why can t they just link the bands and automatically give a discount when proper.
is it another example of disney looking for every dolar?
When you have a ap do you need to show that card for any discounts?

Yes, you have to show your AP card to get discounts.

MBs are not ID.

If you want to buy a beer, have your DL. If you want a discount, have the card that gives you that discount.

You've been lucky. Usually your DVC ID, or if your looking for an AP discount then your AP card, will be required. And you'll often need your photo ID also. Could Disney do it automatically from the MB? Sure. But I don't think they mind if people forget about the discounts or forget their cards.

They absolutely could do it from the magicband... I am willing to bet it will be that way before long. The discount, whether AP or DVC (same amount), will apply automagically when you're ready to check out on the shop disney parks app. I've used it a few times to ship home and to ship to my resort. That app works great. Plus you bypass standing in line if you're just going to ship back to your resort. No wasting time filling out those slips. Its wonderful.

And as others have said... You have been lucky to get the discount applied without proof. I haven't been lucky when I don't have it on me.

Ha Ha I remember when Disney was saying the MB was all you would need nothing to carry? unless you want a discount or your band doesn't work (which happens to us often) you need your DVC, AP cards and you also better have a photo id

The problem is you could hand off your magic band to a non-member. So they want the member card and ID to match it. I don't think there is currently a capability to read the full name off the band.

This is what I was going to say. I don't see DVC membership being linked to the magic band for the reasons Debbie indicated. In any event, I'm really sure that there will never be an automatic "discount check" associated with MB. Disney is more than happy to see anything at 100% if people don't ask for discounts. As the OP indicated, it is rare that a CM asks for discount information.

I think with the pin number requirements that are all they "check" to allow charging that the same should be acceptable for discounts. It's not going to be a lot of people that one would share that with. But, I'll be very very surprised if they ever go that route.

And then they realized the reality of the situation.

If I carry/have/wear a MB, I'm carrying MORE than I used to carry, because I still carry everything else (card-wise) that I used to bring.

That's one thing they do in Disneyland. They ask if you have an annual pass, I guess because so many people out there do. Plus practically everything has an annual pass discount (food & merchandise).
