DVC and dining reservations!

I know this is almost a mute point, but I was wondering if in peoples experiences if they tried to call the dining reservation number and found no availability, but then tried the DVC dining number and had luck getting a reservation they wanted?
For our december trip we made all our reservations through the regular dining line, but I was just curious.

DVC uses the same dining reservation system as the main dining line. The only advantage to calling MS is the toll free number.

Plus the regular dining line is open more hours per day.

I haven't called member services for dining reservations. But thinking about it tonight, it seems that, as members, it makes more sense to call the dining line. After all, I was on the meal plan and spent a lot of time on the phone making reservations for my ten day trip. I assume if I used member services, members would shoulder the cost but I'm guessing we don't for regular dining line.

Also, I don't make meal reservations at the same time I make lodging reservations and I have unlimited long distance.

I called MS during the reservation system upgrade and asked about booking an ADR at Chef Mickey's. They checked the system and then said they couldn't due to the upgrade. I then called the Dining # directly just to be sure, and they booked it no problem, seems there was an exception for Chef Mickey's, CRT, and maybe one other (can't remember). My guess is that the MS CM just wasn't as informed, which is understandable given all the programs they need to be knowledgable about. I think the least risky route is to go to the source whenever possible... DVC for DVC items, Dining team for ADRs, etc

We plan to use the regular dining line when we make ours for the next trip, at least as of now. We have unlimited long distance, so the advantage of the toll-free number would not affect us anyway. And when I made our ADRs back in January for our July trip (before being members), it worked out very well. I even called them again in June to change the time of the ressie at Biergarten and it was no problem.
