I've been to WDW twice now, and both times I bought the regular dining plan for the length of my trip.

Someone on the dining forum has explained to me that DVC bookings can pick and choose dining plans on a per night basis. For example, if you are staying for 7 nights, you could purchase 3 nights of deluxe dining, 2 of regular dining, and two of no dining at all. Is this correct?

I'd love to know the answer to this as well. Planning a trip to WDW in October and if this was an option we'd probably give it a try.

From the way I THINK it works, you would have to do a split stay, even if you're staying in the same room.

DVC reservations now have the option of being segmented. Essentially they take one reservation number and split into multiple reservations. Then you can add the DDP (any variety) to each of tyhe segments.

Do a search for some of the threads dedicated to segmenting ressies for the DDP. Some have reported many issues and inconveniences while others have reported no problems whatsoever. YMMV.

HTH.

Sounds like more work than it's worth.

Yes! I would highly recommend AGAINST doing it. We ended up going last minute last Thanksgiving and had a bunch of wait lists in play so even though we were at SSR 6 nights in the same room then one night at BLT we had at least 4 separate reservations. This completely screwed everything up! They claim they were doing computer upgrades at the time but I don't know what happened. It ended up to our benefit but it was very frustrating to deal with, they kept checking us out and our meal counts on receipts were not accuarate. Plus our key cards which had charging privileges would decline things sometimes and also charge things but the charges never showed up- not that I am complaining. I figured it out when we got home, the whole thing cost Disney at least $400. I am not sure Disney technology can handle such a thing. Maybe things have changed??

The perk is still being implemented and the requirements depend on what version of software your resort is running. Some resorts require a check out, check in with each change, others don't.

My rule at Disney is "simple is best". The more changes that you have, the greater chance of something going wrong.

We had almost the same exact experience at KV last month. Yes, you can segment your reservation and add multiple dining plans to your reservation. It didn't work out so well for us, and a talk with member satisfaction at DVC confirmed that DVC knows this is an IT problem and they are working on it. I would keep my segments very simple if I were to decide to go that route.

A big problem is that Disney doesn't test their software 'upgrades' sufficiently. We're left holding the bag of broken code.

We stayed at AKV 6/3-6/5. Had the DDP night one, QSDP night two. There weren't any problems at all. I think it helped that we originally only had reservations on 6/3 and then added a night so there was actually two reservations. Worked perfectly for us. Checked in on night one, had dinner at Boma. Picked up our refillable mugs the next morning and enjoyed the rest of our counter service meals and snack credits.

We are staying 3 nights VWL, 3nights pre-cruise August...First night it will be 3 of us..2nd and 3rd night it will be 4 us, DS will then be joining us..

MS told me that had to do a "segmented" dining plan to add DS to reservation to 2nd and 3rd night...

I was planning on doing regular dining plan for 3 of us 3 nights and then doing regular dining plan for DS 2 nights...I was told this wouldn't be a problem..

Interesting concept now...It appears from this thread that if we chose, we wouldn't have to be on dining plan first night...We could probably choose
dining plan only for all of us 2nd and 3rd night! Interesting concept!

Am I correct on this thinking about if we chose only doing dining plan for 2nd and 3rd night for all of us? Thanks in advance!:dance3::dance3:

I don't know about using different dining plans on different days but.....

I just returned from an 8 night stay at SSR and did a "split reservation" and had no problem at all. I checked in on 6/22 without the dining plan then added the standard dining plan on 6/24 until checkout. I had no problem at all but I did have to return to the front desk on 6/24 to "check out and check back in".

Well I didn't even get off the starting blocks with my segmented ressie. I totally explained what I wanted but when the confirmation came I had 2 different ressie numbers. As it's over Xmas I don't want to rock the boat trying to mess about with the ressies I've got but I'm concerned we'll have to move rooms even though I called back so a request could be put on not to do so.

I had two different ressie numbers also. I doubt very much if you'll have to change rooms. That was the first thing I asked when I checked in and was told "no".

Yes, you can do that.

We have a segmented trip in August. Two nights at BWV and then three nights at BLT.

We are doing the QSDP for the first of the two BWV nights and then doing the DxDDP on the 1st of three nights at BLT.

For us, the plan is on a day we would be changing resorts anyway so hopefully, that will help. We also do not put charging on our KTTW cards so I don't have to worry about that.

The only glitch I can see happening is whether or not I will have trouble with the credits on the 2nd day or some KTTW not working and needing new ones. Hopefully, it won't be too bad.

But, given the increase in plan costs next year, this will probably be the last time we do the plans.
