DVC and DDP ?'s

My parents are DVC members and they are using their points to rent 3 rooms. One room is for us, and only our family is thinking about adding the DDP. So question #1: Our room will be reserved under our name (KTTW has our name on it) but with my parents points and they are reserving the rooms. Are we still considered our own reservation qualifing for the DDP, or would everyone in all 3 rooms need to have the DDP?
And #2: My parents can make a room reservation in November for their home resort. But we want to stay in another Villa so they will call back 4 months later to switch resorts if it's available. Do we need to add the DDP in November when first booking, wait until March, or I think I read somewhere that you can add it 48hrs before your arrival?
Help! I'm so confused!

If the other villa is in your name you can add the DP for your family. It doesn't matter who owns the original points. For the November ressie you can add the DP in March.

If they're under separate reservations (and they likely are if they are separate rooms) then your parents can add DDP just for your room.


DDP can be added to any DVC reservation any time before 48 hours prior to arrival.

Depending on what reservations you want to make, it would be best to have it added 180 days out or more.

CRT, HDDR, and some other places require payment when you book unless you are on the Dining Plan.

You CAN get it refunded when you arrive for the meal if you add the dining plan later though. That may not be the most convenient way, but it can be done if for some reason it's more inconvenient to add the dining plan to your reservation before 180 days.

I would add the DDP at the time of reservation. If you swithc villas, the DDP should pass onto the new reservation. If not, just add it again. You can add and delete it anytime up to 48 hours as DVC members do not pay for DDP until check-in. This is one of the great benefits of staying on points with DVC.

At some point in the near future, the DVC reservation system is supposed to change so that you must pay for DDP at the time you add it to the reservation. As far as the DVC board is reporting, that hasn't happened yet.

Yep- They have been saying it is in the works but so far not yet, at least for the latest trip I booked three days ago. I actually prefer to prepay instead of worrying about it when we check in. That said, I would expect it would be like any other reservaton - if cancelled, a full refund will be extended (within a certain time frame). The big no-no for DVC and DDP is not to wait to add or drop it until you check-in. It causes big problems with their reservation system. I had to drop one person from our resrvation at check-in when my niece found out the mornng of our trip that the National Guard Reserves activated her for hurricane duty. It took 3 people and 25 minutes to get her removed from the reservation. Something about having to delete everyone and then adding each peson back in and overriding the system. Ugh!

Do you get a discount on the DDP if you have DVC? We were thinking of renting points and wonder if you get a discount on the DXDDP? I know it's probably a NO NO NO but have to ask!

DVC reservations don't pay the higher price for the regular dining plan in peak periods. But there are no actual "discounts" for DVC on the price of any dining plan.
