I booked a cruise for Oct 16th a few weeks ago and all is smooth so far and have received my confirmation from DVC.

A question for the DVCers that have cruised on points. Did you run into any problems getting your documents or any confusion due to the use of points that you would advise others to look out for?

Thanks for the input.:wave2:

We had no problems. Once the reservation goes through both systems you'll be treated like a regular cruiser. They should have a DVC members social. A nice thank you for using points to cruise.

We've cruised on points and with cash.

You won't have any issues. We were told on our last cruise at a "Member Gathering" that DVC is now the single largest "travel agent" that DCL works with. We found that interesting, but that's how they phrased it.

We made our ressies through DVC member services. It was flawless and we are treated just as when we paid cash.

one thing that I have not understood in 5 years of Dvc is that if DVC has to pay DCL the (or any other cc hotel) the cash for our points stay, then how will DVC get that cash back? Is it through cash rental? If our stay on points just frees up week for another dvc'er to book, then how could they rent it out?

They rent the "room(s)" that your points would have been able to book for ca$h. So, DVC released the "room(s)" that your points would have booked and when someone calls CRO and wants a 2 BR at VWL, they pay cash, and voila, DVC has converted your "points" into cash. They also rent out the villas for cash discounts to members right through DVC too. I think that they get a LOT more cash for your points then you actually pay for them, though. Hence, the reason a lot of people will just rent their points out themselves and pay cash for their cruise. It does take a bit more work to rent them out, but, there is a financial return for those who want to spend the time and energy.

Thanks for the replies. Can you tell me about the members meeting on the ship. Is it something I should make a point to do?

Thanks again.

They don't do it on the 3 or 4 day cruise but they do it on the 7 day cruise. Yes you should do it. It's fun. And they give you free gifts. We each (6 of us) received a DVC baseball cap (really nice ones) and DVC luggage tags. They also have trivea games and give away prizes.

Happy Birthday Cat - This may be the stupid question for the day but is this for DVCers regardless of whether they used points or paid cash?? We are doing one of the 14 day repositioning cruises next year and paid cash.
