I purchased a small contract today to beat the price increase at BCV this Sunday. My guide asked for my social security number and birthdate, along with my wife's. He indicated that Homeland Security is now requiring that information on all purchases.

Anyone else hear this? Wonder if the rooms are bugged?

The IRS requires social security numbers for all real estate transactions. It has nothing to do with homeland security. Your guide was either uninformed, or pulling your leg.

Yes. It is a part of the "Patriot Act" enacted sometime after 9/11. It is not actually DHS that is requiring it.
