We would like to book an Alaska cruise in 2012 when we are on ship in 2011 to Mexican Riviera. Does anyone know if DCL is going to Alaska in 2012? When do the points chart come out if they are going in 2012? Will DCL take my points as soon as we book on board in 2011? We will use points for 1 person and cash for 2nd person. Some people are telling us that we will have to pay all cash as soon as we book. Is this correct?
THANKS TIM

I would expect the DCL itineraries for 2012 to be released sometime between August and December of this year. Points charts are probably not going to be available until early 2011. If you rebook within 3 days of getting off the ship, you do get a points discount that's pretty nice (but no OBC, etc for any related cash bookings).

All cash bookings associated with a points booking do need to be paid up front, along with the $95 trade fee. We've done this a couple of times with our DD's cruise fair when we've cruised on points. Since it was only ~$500 for her, it made sense to pay cash rather than points for her for the cruise.

So if you pay 1 person with points and the 2nd person in cash up front you are paying just for your cabin and food, not airfair, transfers, insurance?

Yes, when you pay for any cruise using cash or points, you are only paying for the cost of the cruise, inclusive of food, accommodations, entertainment, etc. When using points, taxes and port charges are also included in the point cost. But, yes, once you call MS to book your cruise using points, you will be expected to pay for any additional parties in your stateroom not using points, as well as a $95 transfer fee, upon booking. Airfare, transfers, and insurance are optional, as they are when paying cash. For what it's worth, I've found that the cash rate for those staying with someone booked on points is cheaper than the rates published on the Disney Cruise website, but I only picked a couple of dates to compare, so that might have been a fluke. Happy sailing! :goodvibes
