Tried asking this on the "Transportation" board, but maybe this
is more specific to DVC.

Has anyone booked their Alamo rental car through Member Services and gotten the DVC discount? Just wondering if it was a better deal going that way or if some of the other offers out there were cheaper? I know I read somewhere that as DVC members we are entitled to a discount with Alamo.

Right now, National seems to be the be what we're leaning toward, but wanted to check this board first.

Thanks for your help....

We tried using the "new" Alamo discount back in December, but the rates weren't all that great...

I'd recommend going out the various websites for Dollar, Alamo, or National, and see what promotions they have going on.. We found a great deal at Dollar.. $200 for unlimited miles on a Dodge Caravan for a week... DVC couldn't match it...

Either that, or try getting frequent flyer miles for the car rental... :D

Alamo was cheaper than the other car companies. I got a convt. for what hertz and dollar where wanting for a ford taurus or similar. I then called MS and DVC was $20 cheaper for the weak for the same car at alamo.

Do you belong to the Disey Club or have a AP? The AP rate is really good. We rented a full size car for August from Alamo and it was $202.00 (sun- sat)

I didn't realize there was an AP rate (duh!). Is there a code for it on their website, or should I call MS?

In the past I've done well by checking the discount codes on mousesavers.com. It also pays to keep checking. One trip, the rates kept going down. I made the final reservation the day before we left, and it was 30% less than the first one I'd made months in advance.

Thanks!

The AP rate for Alamo is listed in the AP guide they give you when buy it. Or you can call the AP line at 407-560-7277. This is going by the 2003 rate codes.

If I call the AP line will they give me the code? My AP expired in December, but we aren't returning until May, so I didn't re-new it since the old policy of time starting to run on it has been abandoned and the use year begins when you purchsae it.

My husband and I will both buy AP's in May as we are returning next March (2004) and will be able to get good use out of them. This May we are staying on points, except for the four nights at HRH at Universal. We are saving the rest of our points for a two week stay in March when we will bring the entire extended family.
