With the recent discussion here about the $15 per point incentive and some apparent confusion about last year's "Friends and Family" incentive, I spoke with DVC guide Judy Kaufman this afternoon to get the details of the current program.

Judy is a long-time DVC guide and even came to a DIS/DVC meet a few years ago shortly after BCV had opened. She was kind enough to attend the meet and generously brought DVC logo merchandise as gifts for everyone present at the meet and made herself available to answer any questions about DVC at that time.

The current incetnive program celebrates The 15th Anniversary of DVC. It does require a referral by an existing DVC member and no points will be immediately available as they are awaiting completion and opening of the Phase III buildings at SSR. Presently, there are still some December, 2006 Use Year conttracts available for SSR, but Judy expects that those will be gone in the near future and they will then begin offering contracts with a February, 2007 Use Year.

The $15 incentive will reduce the purchase price to $86 per point ($12,900). For those wanting financing thru DVC, a minimum 10% downpayment will be required (based on $101 per point) and then the $15 incentive will be applied to the remaining balance. As usual Annual Fees will be prorated - so purchasers would only have to pay 1/12 of the 2006 fees for a December Use Year and no 2006 fees for those getting a February Use Year (they will have to pay 11/12 of the 2007 fees).

For those without a member referral, there is still a $10 incentive available. This 15th Anniversary ($15) incentive won't usually be mentioned by DVC guides unless there is an existing referral already in the records - so it would be best to have your referral in hand prior to contacting your guide or taking the tour.

I did not ask about what the minimum purchase would be for existing members to receive the discount. Perhaps someone else can share their experience with that information.

Just to avoid any confusion, while similar, this is NOT the "Friends and Family" incentive offered in 2005 (those points were available immediately) and no points are "given back" to DVC as in the old "Magical Beginnings" incentive.

If you want a December Use Year, it would be best to call ASAP as there are only a few contracts left for that UY. February will be selling within a few weeks. (There is no January Use Year.)

Enjoy!

Judy didn't offer any suggestion about the length of the incentive. It would appear to me that they are pushing hard to get SSR sales to a point where they can announce the next resort. Last years F&F incentive lasted from October into February and I would guess that this one might have a similar run. DVC has not usually annouced, in advance, how long a promotion will last- but they usually have given fair notice when an incentive will end.

Stay tuned! :)

Thank you that is what I remembered from last year. I remebered it ended Feb1 but was not sure when it started. I added on at the end of promo in Jan. :goodvibes

boy I have got to start reading those email. but I didn't see this one at all - thanks Doc!!!!

According to my guide, existing members can get the $86 price with 2006 points in the existing UY. There's no AP's at this price and the minimum is 115 points. Didn't ask about financing. Not a bad deal if you like SSR given the fisrt year points have minimal dues.

We spoke to Megan last night and got the same info, 115 min for existing owners, SSR only. Resales through DVC are $95/point.

Interestingly, Megan said she will be working at Disneyland through the second week in Oct. Wonder why?

Do the guides not have any room for negotiations? I called about the new incentive - I have a referral and asked about the 2005 points and he said in the past they have offered that but not this time. He could not offer me anything else. I may go for a resale instead.

So if you do an add-on for 115 points at SSR the price per point is $86? Can you name your UY (we currently have a June UY) or do you have to get a December UY?

If you're looking to buy at SSR resale, there isn't much of anything under $86 per point that has full 2006 points let alone 2005 points.

If you are a current member you would get your same UY and would probably get current year points (certainly not guaranteed though).

I know some new members that have requested a certain UY and gotten it; however, they might not have to honor the $15/off rate for "existing" UY.

Since this is a new promo, the best bet would be to ask your guide.

Sorry but Disney doesn't negotiate. The current incentive is what it is and the Price is the Price. If you have ever dealt with, or heard about, other timeshares then you know what a horror story some can be. Disney is all up front and a pleasure to deal with.

Last year this time yes, there was a different incentive, with the previous years pts. given that I believe I had explained in a pm to you a few days ago.

Yes there are resales to also consider if you are willing to look for the right contract, get your own financing, pay full closing costs, take a chance on passing or NOT Disney's ROFR, then if your lucky and get it ....wait longer to close ( about 45 days Im hearing)....the bottom line to remember is that it won't be much less $$ than through Disney (where you would be making ressies in about 2 weeks).

Best of Luck in your decision :wizard:
