Perhaps unsurprisingly, the majority response to the free giclee back in 2006 seemed to be along the lines of "what a waste of money" and "I hope our dues didn't pay for this."
I thought it was cute enough, but it never fit with our decor. I think it was propped up in a rec room at one point, but now probably sits in a box. No matter what DVC chooses to give away, it would never be universally embraced. Even if they sent every member a custom MagicBand, there would be complaints about the color, or the fact that a child didn't receive one, or some owners pointing out that they frequent resorts which don't use MagicBands.
Heck, I'm quite certain there have been complaints over the years about the most modest giveaway items including postcards, bumper stickers and magnets.
I've posted before, I like the gilcee, it is in Cape May, and just this past weekend, my sister and I were admiring it.
We get free nautical drawings of ships from DCL that I do not really appreciate, but I will save the collection. My idea is to have a Disney room in our home, and each of these things will have a place.
Ours is in our loft "office" on the bookshelf. It accents the other Disney pics we have from our Fairy Tale wedding! We bought in at our one year anniversary and DVCs 15th! Good sentimental keepsake...
