DVC 1,000 Point Club (2025)

Curious if people here w tons of points use them all or rent them... I have more points than I can use currently. If it was up to me I would go many times / year, however my wife has enough after 1-2 trips.

We use them all, and are constantly borrowing. We usually stay in 1BR or 2BR villas with our family of 5, and occasionally will be joined by friends/family. So sometimes we’ll book a GV or the other larger villas. I’ll book a studio if I’m on my own. We’ve been spending a few weeks at DLR and a few weeks at WDW a year, so the points get used up quickly. We’ll probably go less frequently as the kids get older, but will more often book at least 2BR villas, and it’s a lot of points for those. We’ve also used points at AUL and plan to do so again, hopefully on a regular basis.

Last year I "had" to transfer in 200 points in order to book spring break ocean view at Aulani [without borrowing]. For some reason I'm super averse to borrowing points, but we do use them every year!

After 7 years in (we were at 700+ points until last year), we are finally using points for other places, for larger units, etc. I think we will be at a decent ## of points for a while - my kids still want to go A LOT, but they are getting older (tween/teen) where they'd like us to be in a 2br so they don't have to share a bathroom with us. My kids still want to go "as many times as possible" and they're better travelers, so we are going for multiple 4-7 day trips now. I think we have enough points, only rented some during COVID when we had to keep changing plans.

We rent some of our points. The plan was to spend more time at WDW once I retired, right now we do about a month at WDW each year.

Would you buy points that you don’t need now, but would like down the road if it’s a good deal?

I bought 300 direct VDH. if I add 200 more with the current incentive and MB it would only be $167 per point for the additional points.

I really don’t need that many yet, so I would probably just rent some.

Talk me out of this!

Can't talk you out of it - it's what I did.

I am sure there is no way we can spend 2400 points considering the cruises and other vacations we already have planned, and will insist on taking for years to come that obviate using all those points. I bought them all because they were a good deal (deal expired) and some time in the next 20 years I will gift those direct contracts to my heirs, so they can enjoy DVC vacations for 10+ years. It's really long term planning, but in the meantime Poly bungalows here I come!

weeeelllll, so, that's kind of what we did less than a year ago with VGF. Given that it hasn't even been a year and every once in a while DH says "Are the girls [12, 8] sleeping on a pull out? Maybe they would like a real bed and a separate bathroom?" means we're probably looking at almost exclusively 2br going forward ... means maybe we will have a "need" for more points.

Yes…. but I also rent out any excess points…. I think VDH is a safe long term bet at $167 a point direct, especially because the points can be used anywhere in the system….

Yeah those people have not yet learned the slippery slope. We started out with 150 points in 2009 and now here we are.

excess points? What are excess points?


(A few times, I have rented expiring points that I came with a resale contract, or because of COVID. I've always done that through the boards here)

I use a broker because I don’t want to deal with the hassle. You can earn more by doing it yourself on the Rent/Transfer board….
