DVC “Confessions”

3 separate confessions
The first time I ever heard about DVC about 15 years ago, I thought it was a scam because it sounded too good to be true.

The first time I ever stayed at Aulani, I drove home to sleep in my own bed because I felt the beds were too high for my baby.

The next time I stayed at Aulani (on a point rental) was 10 years later. Within the first few hours of that trip, I was calculating cost/benefit on contracts and putting in offers as I researched dvc/resale for the first time.

Oh, if you own there, you'll get what you want. I look at everything through the prism of the 7-month window.

I guess that's confession #2 for me: our AKV points are SAPs. Have owned there for many years, have never stepped foot on property.

That’s great! One day you’ll probably end up there, thinking how sad you had no alternatives… and then fall in love with it  Book Jambo if you’re ever ‘forced’ to stay AKV.

Toy Story Hotel, Tokyo Disney Resort.

Watch this one from @4:15 for a minute. It’s a theme park hotel for Genting Skyworld.

Going with a whimsical feel they opted for black magic marker fake closet and comfy chair on the wall. Looked fun for about 2 minutes, lol. View out the window incredible though.

Probably! I feel like, more than any other resort on these boards, AKV gets more love and more recommendations. If they had a 5-person studio, or even a 4-person that sleeps up to 5 with no additional bedding, we'd book there in a second. It's just the whole sucking it up for the 1BR that gets to be a tough pill for us to swallow. Maybe after the refurb we'll have to give it a go...

I bought DVC never having stayed at a DVC resort. We had a family trip in 1999 and stayed at Dixie Landings. My clearest memory of the stay was waiting to be picked up and taken back to the airport and thinking "I haven't been this relaxed in years!" Found out about DVC and purchased in 2000 - hence my username.

In the last 33 years, I've only stayed at other resorts twice, the rest of my trips have been to OKW, 1 Trip was to Poly, nice resort, but it didn;t feel like home, and Kidani, loved the savanah, and the lobby...but inspite of my request, we were assigned the next to farthest room from the lobby at the end of the long, long hall. So won't stay there again. The only other resort (so far) that I really want to stay at sometime is BLT, but I love my OKW.

LOL, Kidani's room requests strikes again! If you had a studio, you probably got the same room as us when we requested "near lobby".
My "DVC Confession" is that, in order to buy DVC initially, I "may have" let DH think that only DVC members were allowed to stay at their Hilton Head Island Resort as an incentive to allow us to buy DVC. That's because, when he learned there was a DVC resort at Hilton Head, he sighed and said "Hilton Head-I've always wanted to go there!" because he was enthralled with all the golf there.
Chuck, I've always wondered-at OKW-how many buildings you've stayed in more than once, your faves and not faves, etc. I thought of you this past fall when we got our first "repeat" building.

It was a 1 bedroom at Kidani. I think I've had the same room at OKW a couple of times, same buildings more than a few times. One of my favorite buildings is 35, across from the Turtle Pond bus stop, nice golf/water view. My least favorite is 50 at the very end of the resort. there is traffic noise from Buena Vista drive, and if there is a private party at Typhoon Lagoon , it is quite loud. I usually get one bedrooms these days, even when I travel solo. But still get a studio occasionally. My last trip I had a one bedroom inBldg 11, never stayed there before, Great location, very quiet. The only thing is for 1 bedrooms the Near HH units don't have the extra bathroom entrance through the laundry room. But I wanted to be near HH. I get ground floor these days, my knees don't do well on stairs anymore. You doing OK, Dorothy?

I've stayed in a studio in Bldg 50 a long time ago. I didn't mind it but I do remember buses doing a turn around there and I could hear that. I'm probably the only person who didn't like the room configuration. Most used to be happy because of the two queen beds. If I go back and I do want to some time, I will get a one bedroom.

Used to love California Grill ,even the first year they did the price fixe menu. Now I won't go back until they go back to a regular menu.
