DVC “Confessions”

We have rope dropped once or twice... lots of advantage to doing so... I would never stand in line for 2 or 3 hours to ride Avatar or Remy for example.

That said, as AP holders and DVC holders, we just aren't in a rush to get into the parks that much.... We love Disney for so much besides the parks - in fact the parks are probably not even our favorite part about Disney - it is the immersive experience, the different theming, the great food, the pleasant staff that uphold a high standard of customer service.

I'm amazed that people "Rope Drop" even though I am always up by 7am, usually earlier. :coffee:
I just returned from Japan and did a few days at the Disney parks there. People actually start lining up at 5-5:30 am for 9 am park opening. Here I thought I was the master of rope dropping but nope there's a whole other level that I do not understand.

I'd love to hear your rope drop experience when you finally try it. I didn't do it for the first few years and once I did I never went back to not RD. It's been 10 years of RD fam time.
I blame our daughters. They sleep like teenages, but it works well for us. They get to sleep and we alternate to get our exercise in.

I would love to RD someday. Even if by myself 🤘

I agree with that. The parks are becoming somewhat secondary each time we visit. I love having the flexibility with our APs. It allows us to roam nearly stress free in/out of the parks. We pay the King's ransom and get through efficiently.

We still do heavy park days at Universal twice each trip. It's been a good mix for us so far. Everything changes though, eventually.

I rope dropped Magic Kingdom one day. Got there early, near the front of the crowd for early entry guests, when they dropped the rope we learned that Space Mountain, 7DMT, and Peter Pan’s Flight were all closed. It will take a lot for me to go through that again, tbh.

Don't forget that Saratoga is one of the best Universal hotels on Disney property lol I do like staying at Cabana Bay too if I'm going to Universal but free parking at Disney is very nice.
Haha yes...

When we are going to both Disney and Universal we prefer to stay at "The Treehouse Villas at Disney's Universal Studio Resort"

I have rope dropped only twice in my life, at MK, in 1974. The same older guy was there both times. He'd say "Please let me get all the way across and don't run me over" and then he'd start running across the end of main street as the crowd surged forward in two directions: towards Pirates and the Jungle Cruise, or towards Haunted Mansion. He ran obliquely, because he couldn't take up the rope fast enough to prevent the crowd from getting entangled in it. In retrospect, it was darn funny.

I completely understand. :)
I don't 😀. But I'm one of those crazy people who sold my points at one resort to buy points at the resort we loved. Our theory was that it would be less painful to be paying dues to a resort we cared for and visited than to one we didn't care about. The strange thing was that the resort we switched to was almost always available at 7 months, so we didn't need the 11 month window. So you may be making the smarter choice.

I love that though!!! It’s like buying stock in a company you love and want to support instead of what may be more profitable. I am a sucker for the feels and “doing the right thing” regardless of financials.

Not a RD fan, I don't understand it. You get up early and wait with crowds at the park entrance, you stand there and wait 45 minutes for them to let you in, then you fight crowds again when they let you in as you try and sprint to an attraction. Where you wait in line again (though maybe 10 minutes). You may save time once you get to the attraction, but to me it's the same as going later and waiting 45 minutes in line. It's just waiting in a different spot. Instead of standing for 45 minutes outside the park, I'm standing in the attraction line. Six of one and a half dozen of another! But for those who like RD, I'm all for it.

Awww, Thanks! I hadn't thought of it that way, but that's what I did when I bought Disney stock right after 9/11-I just wanted to show the Disney company that I supported them even thru the tough times. I honestly didn't even consider that 23 years later, I'd be so glad I had that stock and wish I'd bought more.
