DVC “Confessions”

Like it or not, more understated theming at resorts in general, including Disney and not including Disney, is where they're going. More resorts with subtle, elegant themes like RIV are very much "trendy" right now.

Look at other places with frequently-introduced resorts areas, like Vegas - what was once the Luxor and New York New York is now the Wynn and Fontainebleu. Neither of those have any theme other than "fancy and expensive".
This is SUCH a good point. I hadn't thought of it like this and it is true that whimsical theming seems to be fading across all areas of hospitality. (i miss Vegas of the 90's...)

Confession #1: Hubs has no idea how many points we own. He just knows there are many contracts and use years and that he wouldn’t want to deal with them if I die first 😆 (I do all the planning and booking, he doesn’t even log into his account)

Confession #2: I had googled whether any resort was haunted year ago. Somehow to this date I refuse to stay at OKW and BRV.

#1 my husband likes to call himself a passenger prince, he just takes the time off when I tell him and packs his bag. He would also be hard pressed to say how many points we have and it’s not even that much (2 contracts total 310) or which resort we are staying at before we get there

LOL passenger prince. Sounds about right for mine as well 😆

I have the same confession as you. And if I say "bank" or "holding", his eyes glaze over like I'm speaking some foreign language.

SSR is my fav resort. To me it doesn't have the hussle and bustle of the others I stayed at and I feel most relaxed there.
Funny--- the fact that I actually love SSR was going to be my confession as well. I too feel most relaxed there. I love everything about it.

Whenever it ranks towards the bottom I'm happy to have it that way. IYKYK but get why the Bay Lake and Epcot get all the love.

To the ssr people I was wondering how their feelings compare to okw. I’ve not staid at either yet but from outsider I view them as similar category. I’ve always had desire to try both but prioritize okw since rooms are bigger and lower point charts. What is it about ssr that edges okw in your minds?

Did you find any information about hauntings???

I have never been to SSR (or OKW), but am curious about them. I feel like down the road once I’ve been to WDW a good amount of times I could see myself enjoying a little slower resort, but I think OKW seems more my style, anything in particular you like better about SSR?

Yep, this is exactly what I’m wondering too.

It’s going to be a while before I am “tired” of being within walking distance of the parks, but I can see it happening at some point. :)

The SSR (and BWV, BCV, BRV) units are the smallest of the DVC offerings, They do feel cramped to me. They were designed after they made the OKW units "too big." I love the spaciousness of the BLT and OKW units, as well as BLT's additional bathroom in the 1BRs and up.

I LOVE the sponges and am thrilled when we do split stays because I get to take them home. The 1-ply toilet paper is awful but unfortunately, we've changed to use it after we had major plumbing problems for $10,000. 1-ply is not just fine. As all the plumbers to our house said...."Never Use Charmin". Ever.
I steal the little bottles of dish soap too. They are just the right size to bring into work for washing up after eating lunch.
I feel like admitting that I love the RIV is a confession on this thread. :)
Same. I actually love RIV, tho it's the only DVC I've stayed at. I have stayed at Riverside, which made me never want to stay at a big spread out resort again. I love that it's all one building. The pool sucks tho.
Not sure if this is a confession or truth, but either way, I've always thought the 'perks' they advertised for DVC were silly, and just about useless for us.
Back when pool hopping was going on, it seemed like it was only a few resorts that offered it, it was like 2 hours on the third Tuesday, in the 7th moon, of the 2nd month....I'm exaggerating, but it was way too limited to really be a good perk.
Then there's moonlight magic....rarely ever when we travel, nothing we likely use, as we're just never there when it's offered. I know it's an incentive for lower crowd times ,and advertising, but the one and only trip there was actually going to be one, I got in the queue of like 9000 people, and of course never got through, whereas I read about same people going all the time.
Discounts on events are nearly useless too - just offer a DVC discount for all of an event. We never go to Disney in Sept, so for MNSSHP, just having a 10percent and only in Sept, mostly useless again.
I know, I know, I just bought into the resort, perks are not guaranteed, all of that, I just think if they're going to advertise and offer them, they could be more broad and accommodating, not so specific and limited.
and of course it would be nice for more food/shopping/ticket discounts, I can dream....
Agreed. We've done MM once, because it happened to be during a time we would already be in Orlando, but at Universal lol. I do like the discount though for shopping, tho I wish I could use it more online. I'd buy more lol. Most of the "perks" I enjoyed were just Disney in general, package delivery, Magical Express, the bags to the airport... I'm hopeful that maybe the ticket discount with the new offering may be helpful, but not holding my breath.

My confession I guess would be I had only been to disney once before we bought DVC. We went with my in laws and their kids the 2nd time in Jan 2020 right after RIV opened. They were offering a 40% discount so we booked there, changing from Poly, 1 for the discount, but 2 because I was secretly hoping I could convince DH to buy DVC there lol.

I much prefer SSR to OKW, for a few reasons:
  • I think that since the refurb, the rooms at SSR stack up against any on property as far as how nice they are
  • IMHO, the pools at SSR are much superior to those at OKW
  • There are 3 quick service outlets at SSR (in addition to those at DS being a quick walk away) versus the one available at OKW, and even then it's only a counter window
  • A big one for us is that there is an elevator in every building. At OKW, many of the buildings don't have elevators, so if you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor, you will be using stairs
  • Don't know really why, but if you need to use buses, I prefer it at SSR. In fact, once you master the routing, you can use regular park buses as a way to get around SSR internally.

  • I don’t care for the studio lay at OKW, I prefer the sofa over the 2nd bed at SSR.
  • I really dislike where the lock off door is in the studio at OKW, so loud!
  • I prefer being able to walk to DS rather than the boat so SSR wins.
  • There is more space to run at SSR that isn’t road adjacent so I feel more relaxed.
