During the Holidays, keep your loved ones close

My friend in Florida lost her niece on Tuesday - in a car accident which happened on her birthday. Destiny (Dessie) turned 19 years old on Monday. She had been at her mother's, celebrating her birthday, left to go to her boyfriend's house. Swerved/overcorrected to avoid another car (which didn't stop). She had massive head injuries and never regained consciousness.

Dessie faced odds in her lifetime, and overcame them thanks to the love of her father, grandparents and extended family. She was such a good girl.

As that family faces a grief I never want to understand, please stop and show your loved ones how much you care. I know we get busy and caught up with everything we have to do, but things like this make you take pause.

In the end, Dessie gave the gift of life to others this season - she was an organ donor

First, let me say that my prayers are with your friend's family. It is always horrible when a tragedy like this happens, but it seems to make it harder to bear during the holiday season.

Secondly, my father had a heart transplant 8 years ago, so as someone whose life has been changed by organ donation, my deeply heartfelt thanks to the family for donating her organs!

May Destiny now know peace and happiness that she had never experienced before and may her family find some comfort in the fact that she did give the gift of life.
