dumped a can of kidney beans into chili without draining

I like to think that draining and rinsing helps wash away some of the methane gas. Or not. The chili is still rather potent.

Regarding the beans, when making chili, I don't drain, don't rinse, and don't cut back on the salt. When making other things, I usually drain but reserve the bean juice, and almost always end up adding it to the pot. I think the bean juice has a unifying effect on the flavors. It's just water and bean starch. What I would NEVER do is thicken chili with corn starch- ICK! I am pretty sure the bean starch acts as a thickener, but the thought of adding corn starch grosses me out!

I never drain them and the chili always turns out great

As soon as I saw it was 2 degrees F this morning I knew it was a chilly, chili day!!! I do drain and rinse but I am sure not doing either is absolutely fine!!! I also add 2 T of unsweetened cocoa powder to my chili. Gives it a nice deep flavor but does not make it chocolately.

I made chili too. I did not drain but I used chili beans so they had spices added. When I use plain beans a drain but do not rinse.

Anyway, it really hit the spot!

I guess the cold weather is triggering lots of batches of chili today it might be chili cheese burgers

I don't even use kidney beans in my chili. I use 'chili beans' which are pintos with chili seasoning. Preferably 'Ranch Style' brand. We're having chili tonight also.
